34 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 20, 1990 Many residents to become Block Parents SEAGRAVE NEWS BY ANN SANDIFORD Very special congratulations are in the news this week for two young ladies from Rohinglade Estates who competed in the Pine Ridge Inter-Club Figure Skating Competition. The competition was held in Port Perry this year. Although not medal winners, con- gratulations go out to Angela Kowalczyk who had a first in figures and to Jennifer Berry who had a second place in free skate. Great work!!! Better keep wat- ching the news for these ladies in the next few years, who knows we might see thier names in the 1992 or 1996 Olympics. Congratulations to you both. Congratulations also to John Berry who just received his green belt in Karate. Way to go John. Hope everyone enjoyed safe travelling this past week during the snow and ice. I am sure all the kids enjoyed the extra time off school due to weather conditions and you sure can tell the dif- ference on the Nonquon. It's just a steady stream of snowmobiles this past weekend. They all seem- ed to be travelling slowly and safely as well. That's just great! ! Friends and family joined in on the joyful party Saturday evening to help Linda Fabiano celebrate her 40th birthday. Everyone had a great time helping Linda celebrate and Linda now we know your're '"'Over the Hill." Also, if anyone sees Linda this week, ask her what she got from her 'hub- by' for her birthday. Other birthday celebrations this week were for Mark Blakley who turns 8 on the 22nd, to Dana Jewell who will be 7 on Feb. 16th, and Alexandria Carter who celebrates her birthday on the 18th. Hey Mariposa Estates teens, guess what, there is another teenager in Mariposa Robyn Con- lon turns 13 on the 20th!! Tickets are still available so come on everyone, join in the family fun time to be had, with lots of entertainment. Tickets are available from Pete's Pet Pantry in Port Perry and Seagrave residents can call Diane Copke at 985-3722, to get your ticket soon. Sincere sympathy is extended to the Dempsey family on the re- cent loss of Marj's step-father. Our thoughts are with you. A special reminder to everyone that canvassers will be out during this month of February collecting for the Heart and Stroke Founda- tion. This is an incredibly wor- thwhile cause. I especially would like to thank all the ladies in Rob- inglade Estates who are canvass- ing. Without these people it would be impossible to cover the entire area. Thanks a whole bunch to, Linda Calder, Anne Currie, Deb- bie Colston, Rosalyn Stephens, Diane Runcieman, Diane Puckrin and Diane Cooke. So look for these ladies, as well as myself Ann San- diford, in the next few weeks. Another thank you to all the ladies in Robinglade Estates who have offered to take part in the neighbourhood safety by becom- ing a Block Parent. You should all have your applications by now and I would appreciate if you would either call me when your application is complete (Ann San- diford - 985-9440) and I will come and pick it up, or just drop it in the mail box. By the time all these ap- plications are in, we should have very good coverage in Robinglade Estates, thank to all the ladies and gentlemen who have offered to take part. The village is covered by Heather McWilliam for Block Parents and Mariposa Estates by Emily Lemieux. Anyone interested in becoming a block parent, please give any one of us a call. A small but enthusiastic group of ladies met at the Robinglade Ladies Group Meeting at Joan Gordon's home last Wednesday night for craft night. Many Seagrave couples en- joyed themselves Saturday night at the Kinsmen's Club Valentine's dance held at the Kinsmen Hall in Port Perry. Last but not least, welcome home to our son Bill Sandiford, Graham Sullivan, Karen Mahony and J.D. Heffern. All these Seagrave teenagers returned this Sunday from a trip to St. Donat, Quebec. They were on a french immersion ski trip with Port Perry High School. Needless to say I'm going to have to brush up on my French now since that's all I hear around here. They all had a great time. That's it for this week. I would especially like to thank Marilyn Blair for her contribution to the Seagrave News this week. Marilyn has been attempting to pass on the Mariposa news to us and is just doing great! I am sure you have heard us ask this ques- tion a thousand times, however, here I go again: All three correspondents who write this column, Diane Puckrin, Diane Cooke and myself (Ann Sandiford) are all from Rob- inglade Estates. We really need people to help with this column from the Village of Seagrave and from Mariposa Estates. Most times when we get calls with the news, people dictate to us exact- ly what they would like written, so it really is not a difficult job and actually is a lot of fun at times. I think the column would be much more interesting for everyone if we had input from all the areas of Seagrave. So please, think about it, and give any one of us a call if you can contribute. Diane Cooke, 985-3722, Diane Puckrin, 985-2489 or Ann Sandiford 985-9440. If you have any news items next week, please call Dianne Cooke at 985-3722. PORT PERRY PRINCE ALBERT UNITED CHURCH Rev. D.
