4 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 20, 1990 Evva Davidge, 100 and still going strong | At the wonderful age of 100, Evva Davidge is still doing the things she loves best. Some of those hobbies in- clude playing a mean hand of euchre, crocheting intricate blankets, and baking delecta- ble delights. "She's one of those e people that always gets the good cards (in euchre)," her daughter Ber- nice told the Star. The mother and daughter live together in Port Perry. Their home is filled with the beautiful pieces -- including ce- ramic vases, paintings, and lamps -- Mrs. Davidge has made over the years. Their Lorne Street residence has been their home for three years now. Before that, Mrs. Davidge and Bernice lived at William's Point in Caesarea for 11 years and in Toronto prior to that. Up until two years ago, Mrs. Davidge and Bernice travelled gatensivly, including trips to Florida, Alaska, the Canary Is- lands, Africa, Hawaii, Scotland and the British Isles. Although they do not take as many trips as they used to, Mrs. Davidge still wheels around Port Perry on a three- wheeled bike the pair bought in Florida. When asked if there was any- thing Mrs. Davidge didn't do Bernice replied: "Well, she's given up cutting the lawn and you can see she hasn't shovelled the walk this morning." The Port Perry Star also wanted to know Mrs. Davidge's secret to a happy and healthy ife. "My daughter's cooking and Dr. Millar's pills," Mrs. Da- vidge replied, with a little prompting from Bernice. "She has a very good nature," her daughter added. "I think temperment has a lot to do with it. She's so patient." "You can't put all those things in the paper," the sh and modest Mrs. Davidge said. "I won't be able to go outside." Mrs. Davidge has seen alot of changes in the world over the last 100 years. When she was born on Feb. 10, 1890, there had been no such thing as a world war, transportation was by horse and buggy, and micro- wave ovens, cellular phones and fax machines were un- hegrdot. ugh all the cha ut thro all the nges Mrs. Davidge and her husban raised six children: Bernice, Bob, Dorothy, Beverley, Wil- liam and George. Although William and George have passed on, they helped in giving their mother 12 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. The family held a 100th birthday party for Mrs. Da- vidge at the Masonic Hall on Feb. 10. Over 200 well-wishers at- tended from places as far away as Georgetown, Milton, Orillia and Toronto. 'Mrs. Davidge also received birthday wishes from Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, and Premier David Peterson. PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE THE DURHAM 7 Ye REGION 3 R.C.S.S.
