Durham GM Dealers offer roadside help with their new Trouble Shooter van Your Durham Region GM Dealers are proud to announce the March 12th launch of the TroubleShooter programme, on- going free road service for stranded motorists throughout Durham Region. Seven hours a day, five days a week, one of two TroubleShooters (actually a modified 1990 Pontiac TranSport or Chevrolet Lumina APV), patrols the roads of Durham, looking for motorists in trouble. Driven by trained operators, each is well equipped to han- dle any minor roadside emergency or repair. Extra gasoline, windshield washer fluid, a fire extinguisher, a tool kit, bat- tery cables, blankets, a First Aid kit, spare fan belts, and more are all part of the TroubleShooter's gear. For situations of a more serious nature, each TroubleShooter is also equipped with a cellular phone. A stranded motorist may even call home to explain why he or she will be late for dinner. Motorists-are invited to watch for the brightly-painted TroubleShooter next time they travel the roads of Durham. As a community project of your Durham GM Dealers, TroubleShooter service is available to drivers of all cars and light trucks, no matter what the make or model. It's your Durham GM Dealers way of giving something back to the community after years of valued support. And it's their way of making the roads of Durham that much safer. But it may soon have just one official name: Lilla Street right from the Oshawa boun- dary on the south to the Brock Township boundary in the north. Township council wants this entire stretch of highway that cuts north - south through Port Perry , to be named Lilla Street. But that's not the only road in Scugog that could have a new name. Dozens are in the process of being officially changed to dove- tail with the Region-wide plan to implement a 911 emergency dial system. And that means that roads that used to be known as Con- cession 6, for example, will be re-named so that each resi- dence can be given a number to conform to the 911 dialing grid system. Council has been working on the name changes for months, and once all the propo- sals are made, they will be pub- lished locally. Council has approved doz- ens of changes already, and these in turn will have to be ap- proved by Durham Region be- fore they are official. At Monday's meeting, it was agreed that the new name for Queen Street in Prince Al- bert should be the name of a person killed in World War 1 or 2. PORT PERRY STAR - TUESDAY, MARCH 13, 1990 - 3A Streets get new names for emergency 9ll dial system This suggestion was made in a letter (re-printed this week in the Star) to council from Township resident Joel Aldred. Many of the proposed new names for streets and roads in Scugog are of long-time families inthe area. As for assigning a number to each residence, the Town- ship's consultants are in the process of completing that, per- aps by spring. And that's going to mean a new street number for just about everyone in Scugog, even those who live on streets that retain their former names. It's going to take some get- ting used to, but in the case of certain streets and roads, giv- ing them a new official name will help clear up a certain amount of confusion. Emergency drivers, for ex- ample, will no longer be dis- patched to Concession 12, and have to figure out if that's in Ward 1or Ward 3. Every road and street will eventually have its own name, without duplication. -- WINDOW FASHIONS -- DRAPERIES Hundreds of Fabrics & Colours to Choose From.
