(From page 15) Ruby VanCamp introduced her long-time friend Phyllis Symons from Port Hope, who gave us an insight into the life of people in another country who have in- herited a legacy almost opposite to ours. In May, 1989 Mrs. Symons as part of an Ecumeniacl Church group of twelve, (2 Roman Catholics, 2 Anglicans, 1 Fun- damentalist and 7 United Church members) spent two weeks on a learning and observing visit to Mexico. From their headquarters in the Guernavaco Centre the travellers went on field trips and came face Get into the "Swing to face with the people. They saw the poor living conditions and how the people are struggling just to survive. They saw and smelled the open sewers; they saw the contrast between rich and poor. Phyllis' pictures and commen- tary helped us to understand what it would be like to walk in the shoes of our brothers whose legacy is vastely different from ours. One way that each of us can personally help is to support the Bridgehead Trading organiza- tion. In this organization there is no middleman. Family Concerns A very pleasant visit was en- joyed by Neta Fish on Sunday afternoon when she drove to Sonya to see her sister-in-law Heather Munro. Lawrence & Gwen Malcolm of Nestleton, were with the James Bilton family, north of Kingston, and enjoyed a good visit with daughter Bonnie and family. They also visited daughter Gail in Port Perry. On Saturday, they were evening dinner guests with Bill & Ruth Cowling of Viewlake. Sam & Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Rd., have enjoyed many visits during the week from relatives and good friends offer- ing condolences re- the loss of son Ralph. Our sincere thanks to all for anxious concern and sym- pathy. It is much appreciated! An Invitation We are all invited to Greenbank United Church on April 1st, 7:30 p.m., when they will present 'The New Jerusalem, Singers.' Nestleton Women's Institute The March meeting of Nestleton Women's Institute was held at the attractive home of Winnifred Davison in Nestleton village; on Wednesday, March 7th at 1:30 p.m. President Neta Fish welcomed those present; and It was good to see Gwen Malcolm back from her winter holiday. The regular opening; Ode and receive no commission. All the money goes directly to the pro- ducers who live in a Third World country. Carol Thornton thanked Mrs. Symons on behalf of the group. At this juncture our unit leader pronounced Benediction so that some visitors who had com- mitments were free to go. Marion Larmer thanked the Morning Unit for the invitation to our meeting and offered after- Collect; and a reading "Springtime" was given by Neta. A workshop on "Meeting To-day's Challenge" sponsored by Rral Organizations & Services Branch of the ministry of Agr. & Food had been attended by four W.I. members; held on Tues., March 6. Minutes of the last meeting (December) were read by secretary Gwen Malcolm and ap- proved. Roll Call - A garden pro- blem I solved - was answered; and Pennies for Friendship rec'd. Correspondence included cards from former members; a note and card from the Sister Institute in Durham, England; a letter from the new Provincial Presi- dent - Peggy Knap and a bulletin from Provincial Board. The April meeting will be held at the home of president Neta Fish; with annual reports to be ready; and slate of Officers EE PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 27, 1990 -- 19 Curling banquet is on Saturday, April 14 noon unit held at the Stew Supper. The Stew Supper plans were up- dated. Members were asked to get tickets for advance sale from Dorothy Venning. They were also asked to sign the work chart and to remember some important dates; Stew Supper on Saturday, April 21st with two sittings 5 p.m., and 6:30 p.m., admission $7.00 for adults and children 12 and under $3.50. Regular meeting on Wednes- day, April 18 to take the form of a pie making workship at the church. Come at the regular time of 9:30 and bring a bag lunch if you can remain over the noon hour. Friday, April 20 at 1:30 at the church for "setting up." Ileen McLaughlin reported on the layette for the hospital and ar- ticles, where the layette will be on display at our April meeting before it is taken to the hospital auxiliary. And then we went out into our beautiful sunshine, breathed our fresh sweet air and wended our way home to our comfortable cosy homes. A poem on Spring was read by Grace; followed by a Workshop on Flower Arranging; with members making arrangements in wicker baskets; Easter theme etc. Everyone enjoyed this creative time. Bertha McLaughlin & Grace Bajema assisted by the hostess served a tasty lunch; topped off with coffee. Gwen extended the appreciation to those in charge of the meeting.
