Ell A This past Sunday saw the first game of the final play-off series in league Broomball. Monsma Electric narrowly defeated the B/R Electric/Swamp Garage squad by a score of 5- 3, to take a 1-0 series lead. The championship Is a best two out of three serles with the second game slated for this Sunday at 4 p.m. Monsma defeated Framer's Gallery 2 games to 0 to advance to the finals, while B/R defeated Blackstock in a double overtime match to take their series 2-1. USC results Swimmer Jim Kelly wins five gold medals Members of the Uxbridge Swim Club turned in strong perfor- mances on Sunday as 150 swim- mers from seven clubs competed for medals and ribbons in the Novice Division. Jim Kelly, aged 13, who has on- ly been swimming competitively for 6 months, swam extremely well this meet. Jim placed first in all five events he entered (50 free, 100 free, 100 breast, 100 fly, and 100 lL. m.). A very good weekend for Jim, who may soon be ready to move into Level I competition. Aaron Tiesson, also a 13 year old, swam well in the 100 backstroke. He was a strong first, 8 seconds ahead of his closest novice competition. Our other young novice and development swimmers also swam very strongly in many events. In the 8 and under girls catagory, Suzie Evans and Heather Lee both were very successful. They were able to take time off their previous best times and placed in the top five in events of 20 to 30 swimmers. Good work Suzie and Heather. In the 9 and 10 year old races, our girls have a very big con- tingent. Jenny Cramm, Kristin Thomas, Tamara Solski, and Thea Demmers were all winners this meet. They swam best times and repeatedly outswam their novice competition. Laura Lee and Patricia Donnelly in the 11 and 12 year old girls races found the competition strong but managed to stay in the front runners. Laura swam very strong races in 100 free and 50 fly while Patricia's best race was 50 back. These girls all swam laps on U.S.C. relay teams that placed either first or second as well. This very talented Novice group pro- vide some excellent recruits for our Level I competition as they continue to develop there skills. DENNIS | J ( PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 27, 1990 -- 27 Tyke team tourney On Tuesday, March 13, the ad- vanced Tyke teams, C.A.W. and Brooks Feed played several games at Port Perry Arena. The first game was between Port's C.A.W. and Oshawa's MacKenzie Park. The first goal was scored by Mark Blakely of C.A.W.. There was a lot of hard skating and good defensive work by C.A.W., before Oshawa scored, late in the first period. Port Perry's C.A.W. continued to out- skate and outplay Oshawa, scor- ing six more times. Scotty Brownson and Michael Dally each scored 2. Steve Wygerde and Trevor Barr scored one each. Billy Carr, Jamie Mouland, Mark Blakely and Grant Hooker each got an assist. The second game was between Port Perry's Brooks Feed and Uxbridge's Dozers, Brooks Feed worked hard and came out with a 4-0 win, giving Ryan Woods a well deserved shutout. Scoring for Brooks Feed was hard skating Jason Whitworth, who displayed some great puck handling, to earn him a hat trick and an assist. Braden Tarbotton scored C.A.W.'s other goal, assists went to Sean Jeffrey and Steve Schewaga. After lunch the third game bet- ween Brooks Feed and Oshawa, kept all fans on the edge of their seats. Both teams played hard and Brooks Feed was robbed many times by Oshawa"s goalie. The game ended in a 0-0 tie, giv- ing Ryan Woods of Brooks Feed another well deserved shutout. He was certainly helped by the defensive play of Mike Lefort, Sean Jeffrey, Shaun Martin and Robert Sheenan. The final game of the day was between C.A.W. and Uxbridge. This was another exciting game as C.A.W. won it by a 3-2 score. Scoring for C.A.W. was; Justin Heyworth, one goal, one assist; Steven Wygerde one goal, Scotty Brownson one goal, Matthew Cracknell one assist and Jamie Mouland one assist. These fine little hockey players should be congratulated on their great sportsmanship and hard work.
