In the second period, there was Petites lose 6-1 to Markham On Saturday, March 24, the Port Perry Petites sponsored by Bruton's I.D.A. set out for Markham to play against the Markham B team. While Port's girls had met and defeated both Markham 1 and Markham 2, this was a different story. The Markham B team is made up of girls selected because of their superior ability from each of the other teams. The coaches knew that the girls from Port Perry would have their work cut out for them, especially since four of the regular and more experienced home town girls were not available for this match. Although the final score was 6-1 for Markham, the coaches were more than pleased with the effort and the play of the Bruton's team. Katie Senyk was sharp in net, frustrating Markham's heavy scoreres time and again. With on- ly two forward lines, each girl knew that she had to make it hap- pen herself. The passing was much improved, the stick work was brutal, and the fore-checking showed energy and determination that had been missing over the past few games. Cara Vander Slagt, Lynda Payne, and Michelle Branton had several excellent shots on net, but the Markham goalie was always there. Cindy Verschuuren, Joan Anderson, and Natasha Burgess made one of their chances count for the only goal of the game. The defence worked hard, led by Melissa Pereman and Jenny Storms. Melissa Dawson, Lee- anne Wakeford, and Sheila Ranger followed their example by hanging tough in front of the net, and digging hard along the boards. It was certainly a combin- ed team effort that produced the satisfying end result, The next game will be against Ajax on Sunday at 1:30 in Port Perry. no scoring, but in the third, Colin Geisberger rounded out his hat trick assisted by Chad Withers- poon at 9:28.
