April 10, 1990 -- 27 Local students win awards at Science Fair Many local students did well at the Regional Science Fair held at G.L. Roberts on March 29and 30. Lisa Pereman, a Grade 8 stu- dent from R.H. Cornish Public School captured the gold medal in the Physics division with her project on "Natural Colour", for which she received a $200 GM. cashaward. Lisa also won the Director's award in the junior category and received a trophy and an additional $100. This award en- titles Lisa to go on to the Cana- da-wide Science Fair to be held M:y 13-19, in Windsor. van Hildreth, from Port Perry High School earned a gold medal in the Intermediate ngineering division of the fair, and won the IBM of Canada award for Computer Software. He also placed fifth overall in judging, missing out by one spot of going on to the Canada- wide fair. Ben Lewis, a Grade 8 student at R.H. Cornish also finished very well. He claimed the gold medal in the Applied Science and Engineering Division with his project entitled "Sweat Suc- cess." Kyla McCrae, a Grade 7 stu- dent at S.A. Cawker Public School took home a bronze med- al with her project on the Test- gd the Five Different Types of Kitty Litter. Her project will be on display for about one month at Pete's Pet Pantry, as his donation of samples of Kitty 'Litter helped her a great deal in her project. Other winners included Na- than Robinson, P.P.H.S., with a silver medal in Intermediate Physics. Kevin Stewart, P.P.H.S., honourable mention in Biology. Sara Brown, P.P.H.S., honourable mention in Biology, and Andrew Frew, and Mark Jansen, P.P.H.S,, winning the Energy Conserva- tion and Renewable Energy Award, and the Dupont Cana- da Award for Applied Chemis- try. --.
