Elvis is Canada's number - two skater, second only to Kurt Browning. He is ranked num- ber ninein the world. When asked what it was like to skate in the World Competi- tions, he stated it was very dif- ferent. "It feels like an international compeitition, but a big one with all the trimmings. They will do anything for you," he stated. he Richmond Hill native has been skating for 13 years, and skates out of the Mariposa Skating Club, located in Barrie. This past year marked his first time skating as a senior in the world Competitions, and the down-to-e Elvis stated he really did not think he would make it that far. "My goal was to get to the Na- tionals, and do the best that I could. It worked out well, I was chosen for the Worlds, and I tried to do just as well, if not better," he said. The previous year Elvis placed fifth at the Divisionals missed out by one spot for a place on the World Team. Elvis skated at the Port Perry Carnival two years ago and was a huge success. He said that he has improved greatly since then. He added that he likes to skate at ice carnivals in com- munities like Port Perry. "It is fun, I get to meet lots of people. It is good to skate some- times with no pressure; to have fun with it. I often try out new things, that I may try in my competitions next year." Even with the success he has reached the 18-year-old skater is still very cautious in his goal- setting.
