Pee Wee 2s lose § fo Bowmanville in tournament The Pee Wee 2's travelled to Bowmanville this past weekend for their Pee Wee Select Tourna- ment and made it to the B Cham- pionship BUT they went down in defeat to the host team. Port lost the first of their 4 games by a score of 4-1 to the team from Hamilton. Port's lone marker late in the third was scored by Mike Labanovich assisted by Jason Reid. MVP game 1 - Brett Lawson. Port's second game was won by a score of 5-1 over the team from Trenton. Trenton scored first but less than one minute later Darly Bourgeois got the puck to Jeremy Geer and he sent it top high. Jason Reid notched our second with the assist going to Ian Shrigley. With 59 sec. left in the first, a penalty shot was awarded to Jeremy Geer. The crowd was on the edges of the seats, he stickhandled that puck and prompty sent it flying over top of the goalie and into the net. There was no scoring in the se- cond by either team. Scotty (with his arm injury from game one) was hot, hot HOT!!! Ian McCready started our fourth goal, getting the puck to Brent Harper who made a beautiful pass to Daryl Bourgeois who scored. After a 2-way passing play from Jason Reid and Jeremy Geer, Jason Phillips got the puck and moved in, and in, and in and then let it rip - the goalie never stood a chance! MVP - Jeremy Geer. As the sun was getting up for "MOST" Sunday morning, off we went again for game three against Oshawa. Obviously the early morning air was effective as we won by a score of 5-3. Matt Hobbs and Daryl Bourgeois teamed up and got the puck to Jeremy Geer who backhanded it through the goalie's legs. Ian Shrigley passed Port novice team faced to Mike Labanovich and as he was airborn, sailed the puck into the net. Oshawa finished the scoring in the first. Andrew Jones let the sizzler go from the blueline - the score 3-1. A backhander from Brent Harper made the score 4-1. Assists to Brett Lawson and Ian Shrigley. Again Oshawa ended the scoring and scored the first in the third. Mike Labanovich and Brent Harper got the puck to Ian Shrigley and he promptly put it up over the goalie and 'ended the scoring. MVP Brent Harper. This win put Port in the B Champion- ship game. In the championship game, our boys played the host team - Bowmanvillé Selects. Bowman- ville moved in for the bill and pro- mptly scored 5 goals before Port. counted its only goal. Andrew Jones carried the puck to the blueline - tapped it over the Mike Labanovich and he did one of his trademark split the defense go in and score plays. Bowmanville wanted the win - it seemed - more than our guys did and put 3 more past us giving them the victory 8-1. MVP - Rick Olaisen. Although Port lost the big one, they certainly didn't come home empty handed - they all received finalist trophies and Brett, Jeremy, Brent and Rick MVP game awards, MVP "Tourna- ment" award to a very well deser- ving Jeremy Geer! and Brett Lawson won the Ghetto Blaster in the tournament draw of all those participating. That's a lot of hard- ware folks. Port now plays in their final (yes I said final Moms and Dads) tournament Easter Weekend in Oshawa - I hope no eggs are laid in this one. Good luck guys. P.S. Dads - first game is 8 a.m. Friday. Napanee in national championship in N.Y. Pearce Auctioneers travelled to Buffalo, March 30 to April 1, to participate in the Pepsi Invita- tional Tournament.
