: LAN ) | | ont 5 I'm sorry to have been absent for a few days and am therefore late in reporting about the most interesting weekend of Easter in the Island United Church. Of course there were the usual specialties for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Fri- day leading up to the special celebration with decoration, Scugog Island ladies held a Country Cookin and Craft Sale at the Island Hall on Saturday. There were a variety of displays and demonstrations taking place along with the fa- mous Scugog Island bake sale. Above, Irene Carter (left) and Betty Reader try to tempt the photographer with some of the delicious baked goods, while Jan Gerrow show her skills at quilting. Katy's Sweet Treats (formerly B & L Donuts) 150 WATER STREET, PORT PERRY (ac and COFFEE (expires April 27/90) SPECIAL of the WEEK: Home-Made APPLE PIE music, Baptisms, new member- ship and communion. Instead of one or two people be- ing responsible for decorating, members of the congregation had been invited to supply flowers in memory of a loved one. The result was a list of 22 names supplying cut flowers, plants, Easter lilies, etc., making the appearance more beautiful than it had ever been. After the service these flowers were distributed to older people who are shut-ins or don't get out as easily as they once did, thus bringing joy to a greater number of people. Those who were accepted into Community Hospital Auxiliary by Luella Graham On April 16, the Port Perry Community Hospital Ladies' Aux- iliary held their meeting with 23 ladies present. The president opened the meeting with all repeating the Auxiliary Prayer, and hoped all had a happy Easter. In the absence of the secretary, the minutes of the last meeting were read by Pat Taylor and ap- proved. The treasurer's report was given and the corresponding secretary had sent out one "Thank-you" note. Bonnie Ger- row reported 14 boys and 6 girls born in the hospital since last month. Joan Godley, adult volunteer, gave her report and said things were going along about as usual. Hazel Coates, wool convenor, showed us many beautiful knitted articles that had been turned in, and we do thank the ladies for all their work. The president then read a letter from Mr. Brown (Hospital Administrator) inviting us all to their annual meeting, June 20 at 8 p.m. A motion was made by Marj McConnell and seconded by Eleanor Davidson that we serve lunch after the meeting. A long discussion follow- ed re our Spring Fair, being held in the Port Perry United Church on May 26 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. May 28, is our next meeting which is also our Annual Meeting. We do hope to see you all at the Spring Fair with lots of goodies ladies. A motion was made by Camille Crozier that we adjourn, after which we had a draw on a lovely doll donated by Hazel Brooks. Mrs. Lloyd Wallace was the lucky winner. We do thank Hazel for this donation. A social hour followed with refreshments. Hope to see you all out at our next meeting. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 24, 1990 -- 39 church membership were: Lynda Clements and her friend Lynn Rogers who presently live in the church manse, Penny Kutlik who has already given much time to work in the church. Then Doreen Adam, Mary Ann Pring Howard Wolf, Tom & Joy Rennick all peo- ple who have had a long time, working interest in the church. Then 3 little children were bap- tized, namely: Nicholoas & Allison, the children of Penny & Joe Kutlik, little Melissa, little daughter of Tom & Joy Rennick. This last Sat. weekend was another successful venture for the 2U.C.W.'s who work together for Pot Luck suppers a double function namely: a very successful luncheon at the church with crowds of people followed by the craft demonstration, show & sales along with sale of country cookin' at the Community Hall. Members and weather all cooperated. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Madeline Cawker has had recent malfunction with her heart re- quiring 2 periods of attention and care in the hospital. Being a very busy and interested little lady she regrets her period of withdrawal and care. Recently, Mrs. Wm. Middleton of Scugog Rd. 5 at the "Head" returned from a 10 day trip to New Brunswick to visit an ailing brother and other close relatives she hadn't seen for about 12 years. There are so many dates to remember in the present Scugog Pastoral Charge, it is necessary to keep the weekly bulletins to help keep them in mind. There are 3 future pot luck suppers at which time we will learn about past Island Church history and the present work. This last Sunday, Ethel & George Freeman returned to the Island Church to share their musical ability. They sure looked as if they were where they really belonged.
