The Legion Hall was filled to capacity for the dinner and awards ceremonies. Minor Hockey president Larry Lee introduced members of the executive and the board of directors, and paid special trib- 'ute to the many sponsors. He also had a word of thanks to the individuals who give their time to serve as coaches, managers and trainers through the long hockey season. After presentations were made to the individual recip- ients (see photos) of the sports- manship and ability awards, all members of the Pearce Novice Auctioneers were called to the stage. This was the only Port Perry team to capture an OMHA championship this past season. All the players were intro- duced along with coaches Bob Spencley, Ken Parry, trainer Murray Empringham and man- ager Debbie Jones. Team sponsors John and Beryl Pearce shared the stage with this champion team as Mayor Howard Hall presented Township of Scugog medallions for their achievements this win- ter. There were several special presentations made to individu- als this evening. John Christie presented Minor Hockey with the puck used for the first face off at the first ever game in the new Scu- gog Arena back in January, 19717. Grant Menzies, who has sponsored the Midget Eagles for many years was recognized for his long-time support of mi- nor hockey in this community. He'll be giving up the spon- sorship next season as his auto dealership is in Whitby, allow- ing a local business to take over sponsorship of the Midget A team. Don Steel was presented with a past presidents plaque and life membership. And Fred Oxley became the first non-executive ever to re- ceive a life membership. Mr. Oxley has been a house league coach in Port Perry for some 20 years, and coached in the minor systems in Toronto before that. Parents were reminded that the Minor Hockey Annual meeting is slated for May 27. If they have any complaints or concerns, the annual meeting is the place to voice them. 5-4, TM A TENN Ww . v 4 § i Former President Don Steel (at left) received life mem- bership as did Fred Oxley.
