If you like old cars, specifi- cally Model T Fords, downtown Port Perry will be the place to be on July 19. Some 350 Model T Fords and their proud owners will ar- rive in Port Perry that after- noon as part ofa tour by the In- ternational Club. Scugog council has given permission for part of Queen Street and Water Street to be - closed to regular vehicle traffic for two hours that afternoon so that the Model T's can be dis- played to the public. The request to close the Pitch-In Week off to good start as over 1000 offer to help Pitch-In Week in Scugog is coming up May 7-13, and the re- sponse in Scugog Township has been "tremendous," Ward 2 councillor Marilyn Pearce re- ported to fellow councillors on Monday afternoon. She said that nearly 1,000 individuals will be working to clean up areas in all parts of the Township. . "It's a great start to really cleaning up Scugog and people are going to notice a difference," she said. The clean-up actually got underway last week when stu- dents from R.H. Cornish School picked up huge amounts of trash and garbage from public areas, and on top of that planted some 200 trees. One well-travelled area of the Township that's going to get a thorough clean-up is along the Rash of auto thefts insbweelk Scugog Township was hit with a rash of auto thefts over the last week. Charles Butler of Greenbank reported to police that his 1880 Oldsmobile was stolen late Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, Prince Albert resident William Courtney woke up to find his 1983 GMC pick-up truck was missing from his driveway. Also Thursday morning, Port Perry resident Matt McMillian reported to police that his 1987 Honda had been broken into. An am/fm cassette radio and speakers were stolen. Police are investigating the incidents. COMPARE THE RATE! 165 QUEEN ST., PORT PERRY 985-8435 Highway 7A causeway, just east of Port Perry. Councillor Pearce said that aside from the obvious benefits of having a Township-wide clean-up underway, people hopefully will start to get the message that if "you throw (gar- bage) on the ground, somebody has to come along and pick it up." 345 SIMCOE ST.SOUTH, OSHAWA - Over 350 Model T Fords will bring tour through downtown Port Perry street came to council Monday from the Business Improve- ment Area (BIA) Gary Potter, a North York businessman who's in charge of the Model T tour this summer said the cars and their owners will come from all over Canada and the States, and it's not like- ly the tour of these antique cars will ever stop in Port Perry fagain. He said one Model T buff from California is 75 years old and he'll be driving a car he pur- chased new. The owners will be based in North York for the week-long celebrations and the tour will include day trips to communi- ties like Port Perry. Scugog councillors were en- thusiastic about the plans to bring so many cars to the com- munity for an afternoon as the tour should attract a lot of visi- - tors who want to get a close look at these old cars from a by-gone era.
