TL IL I I rel eo rtrd m-- Port Perry Farmer's Market to open af fairground Plans are underway for a Farm Market at the Port Perry Fairgrounds. The market, which would sell fresh garden produce, crafts and baked goods, is being devel- oped by the Port Perry Agricul- ture Society (Fair Board) And Dr. Bill Cohoon, a member of the Fair Board, told the Star last week that the Farm Market could be operat- ingin early June. "We would like to have it going in time for the fresh strawberry season," he said. The market will be open Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to about 1:00 PM on the area of the Fairgrounds near the Christie Building. The Fair Board hopes to at- tract local vendors selling gar- den produce, crafts of all kinds, and home baking. And people who are think- ing of holding a yard or garage sale would be welcome to rent a stall for a Saturday morning and hold their sale during the market hours. Dr. Cohoon said the Fair- grounds is an ideal location to hold a Farmers Market as there is plenty of space, buildings are available, and there is lots of parking. The grounds are easily ac- cessible from Simcoe Street and Durham Road 8. Once the market gets going this June, he expects it will be a weekly event in Port Perry each Saturday morning to Thanks- giving. The Fair Board would like to hear from any interested vendors (garden produce, crafts, etc.) and inquiries should be directed to Dr. Co- hoon at 985-8044. He believes the idea of a weekly Farmers Market should be popular with residents of Scugog Township and likely would serve to attract visitors to the community.
