Day Camp has something for every child Hey kids, summer is here and the time is right to register for summer camp. This year for the first time ever you can go to four different camps right here in the Township of Scugog. There is Sports Camp, Creative Arts Camp, Day Camp, or Counsellor-in-Training Camp. Some camps are almost full such as Sports Camp and Port Perry Day Camp. Only a few spots are still available. Port Perry Day Camp will pro- vide children with an excellent op- portunity to experience life in the outdoors including nature, camp craft skills, cooperative and new camps along with environmental awareness in a fun and age ap- propriate way. Trips this year in- clude, Purple Woods and Non- quon Conservation Area, canoe- ing and swimming are also part of this programme. Camp hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with extended hour available from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Camp is located at Kinsmen Hall in Port Perry. New Specialty Camps are located at R.H. Cornish at the rear of the school in the large gym. Camps are for children 6 to 12 only, running from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. with extended hours available as well. Sports Camp will provide children with ex- cellent leadership in a variety of sporting activities. Campers will experience skill development and participation in many area such as baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, swimm- ing, fitness. This camp will stress, fun,fairplay, sportsmanship and skill development. Camp session begins July 9 - July 20. Creative Arts Camp is a special program for those children who enjoy art, drama and music. A special place for a child who loves to act a part, sing a tune, create a sculpture or create all kinds of things... A place where imagina- tion, creativity and impulse thrive. Campers are guided through a well rounded ex- perience with unique arts and crafts emphasis. Camp session begins July 23 - Aug. 3. Counsellor In Training is a great program for youth ages 13 and up who show leadership potential. This camp will provide its participants with self- confidence and self-esteem which are essential to have at this age. Topics covered include first-aid, child development and manage- ment, discipline, leadership and program planning. Participants will have one week training and one week practical experience in the camps under supervision of camp director. Each participant will receive an award indicating they have completed a leadership training program. As you can see an exciting sum- mer awaits the children in the Township of Scugog. Residents learn how to oil paint As part of a Community Nursing Home Care College, residents were taught the skills of oil painting by instructor Marta Gill. The oil painting course was the first in a series of mini- courses to be given by the Nurs- ing Home activity department Each course is six weeks long, with each class being at least an hour inlength. The residents - recently fin- ished their oil paintings, and had Tracy Strong from the Framer's Gallery visit them last Wednesday at the Nursing Home to show them a selection of frames to finish off their art- work. Upon completion of a course each person receives a certifi- this newspaper \ J cate of credit. An accumulation of 30 credits is needed to gradu- ate. The next course for the resi- dents will be a photography course taught by Linda Hughes, and future classes will include grooming, microwave cooking, and one handed typ- ing.
