It made us all feel good." He paid special tribute to all the individuals, service clubs and organizations that have supported the hospital expan- sion plans financially. The financial report showed a surplus of $293,000 for the year ending March 31, Please recycle this newspaper the first time in several years, there hasbeen a surplus. This was due to two rea- sons: cost cutting and an extra $150,000 added to the base bud- get last summer by the Health Ministry. Mr. Brown said this year the hospital will be spending $160,000 to hire more nursing staff for the emergency depart- ment. The statistical report showed the number of births in- creased last year (from 1656 to 182) and there were increases in" the number of patient/days; operations; physiotherapy vis- its; and day surgery cases. | The number of lab tests, X- ray exams, admissions and emergency visits dropped last year from the previous year. The vast majority of pa- tients (74 per cent) come from Scugog Township. Nearly ten per cent come from Victoria County; 5.7 per cent from Brock Township; and the remainder from Oshawa, Whitby, Ux- bridge and other areas. In their remarks at the an- nual meeting, both Mr. Brown and Mr. Foster had high words of praise for the hospital staff, the adult volunteers, the teen- age candy stripe volunteers and the Hospital Auxiliary. Star will delay publishing paper for Canada Day The business office of the Port Perry Star will be closed this coming Monday, July 2, for the Canada Day holiday. Publication of the Star will be on Wednesday, July 4, a day later than usual. The office will re-open Tuesday morning (July 3) with deadline for ads and copy at 11:00 AM that day.
