Cornish student Amanda Wakeford competed in the Ontario Track and Field Championship recently and came home with two medals. Amanda, who competed in the 10- year-old Tyke division, won a gold medal in the 400 metre run and a silver in the high jump. Local bowlers win tourney Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club is underway with 90 members signed up and some good pro- spects being introduced to the sport. All ages welcome. An introductory course is being offered every Thursday at 7 p.m., no charge and no obligation. Cer- tified coaches on hand, tea and coffee provided while you review your performance on video. Why not give it a try? Put on flat soled shoe's and come down to the clubhouse, behind Central Seven, north of the fairgrounds. Some of our other features are Tuesday and Wednesday League; starting at 7 p.m. both nights. Sunday Jitneys and special events are good mixers that provide fellowship and fun outdoors in the fresh air. Out of town visits to places such as Lindsay - Oshawa - Cannington - Whitby - Fenelon Falls - Bob- caygeon - Cobourg - Peterborough and many more, provide an occa- Jeep Eagle sion for a picnic lunch and fun in the sun. Saturday June 9th Cannington hosted 16 teams for the Bill Fit- ches Trophy, won by a Lindsay team. The Port Perry team of Dennis Smith, Joyce Storry, Ed- na Smith were in a runner up position. Thursday June 14th the Sullivan Strong Scott Trophy also hosted by Cannington was won by the Port Perry team of Joyce Storry, Edna Smith, Dennis Smith for a second year in a row. Saturday June 16th, 16 teams, five of them from the host club - Port Perry, competed in the scor- ching hot sun. However in spite of the heat the host club placed three teams in the top five.
