The large col- lection of antiques and other col- lectibles were sold by public auc- tion by Powell Auction Services. The crowd came from many points throughout Ontario. Even with two days it was not com- pleted. The balance will be sold later. Mrs. Madeline Brown, a former resident of Purple Hill who now lives in Oshawa spent a few days with Cecil and Marie Gibson. Nancy and Bob Bryans and Floyd and Vernona Beatty also visited. Glad to report that Les Waters is recuperating steadily following his back surgery. Plans are well underway for the Ecumenical Church Service which will be held on Sunday evening August 19 at 7 p.m. at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. This service which will have all the churches of the area taking part will be sponsored by the Blackstock Agricultural Society. Several of the Mountjoy relatives were in the area atten- ding the Mountjoy auction sale - among them were Nancy Belyea, Leila Wannan and Audrey O'Neil. His daughter Margaret Kemp read the scrip- ture while his wife Susan told a delightful true story about the family dog Toby. Next Sunday the "Friends of Blackstock' will be in charge of the service. Members of the Blackstock Agricultural Society are remind- ed of the regular meeting which will be held this Thursday even- ing at 8 p.m. On Sunday several local families have opened their homes to the Young People of the World Farm Organization. Each pair of young visitors is made up of a Canadian and a young farmer from Thialand. This should be quite an experience not only for the families involved but for the entire community. Word has been received of the passing of lifetime Cartwright resident Lorne Hoskin. Sympathy is extended to his wife Maxine and sons Murray & Allyn. Lorne and Maxine moved to Port Perry last fall.
