26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 14, 1990 Scugog lawn bowling results Results of Jitneys and Tour- naments for the past three weeks are as follows: Port Perry - Sun- day July 22nd - Pizza Jitney. This was organized by Mike Sheridan and 24 players participated. As a first year bowler, Howard Coulter had highest points of the day with 31. Runners-up were Harry Dann 29 pts; Anna Beaton 21 pts.; Harold Martyn 21 pts.. A generous helping of pizza was enjoyed bet- ween the two eight-end games. Port Perry - Saturday July 28th - Mixed Pairs Tournament was won bya team from Oshawa. The other three game winner was the team of Dennis and Edna Smith. The high one-game honours went to Harold and Clara Martyn. Lindsay - Saturday Aug. 4th - Neil Dewar Trophy. 16 teams competed. A team from the host club prevailed. The Port Perry entry of Dennis Smith, Joyce Storry and Edna Smith were two- high game winners. Port Perry - Sunday, Aug. 5th - Corn-on-cob Jitney. This day was organized by Stan and Muriel Rickard, 24 players participated. Champion of the day was Lillian Midgley with 23 points. Runners- up were Gwenyth Thompson - 20, pts.; Doug Gower - 19 pts; Hazel Leger - 19 pts. ; - Jim Martin - 15; John Leger - 15. Oshawa - Monday, Aug. 6th - Morrison Trophy - Dennis and Ed- na Smith were high one-game winners. Port Perry Second League schedule was completed with Dennis Smith - Noreen Malcolm - Marj Jackson. (Tuesday Win- ners) Stan Foster - Alma Cox - Frank Russell - (Wednesday Win- ner). The Playoff Game for Gearge Stone Plaque was video- taped by Clarke Ross, assisted by his wife Lillian Ross. After a very tight game, Dennis Smith - Noreen Malcolm - Marj Jackson were declared winners. Port Perry - Aug., 11th - Lake Scugog Lumber & Co. Coal Trophy. Due to a miz-up, resulting in a team short, the tour- nament secretary, Stan Rickard and two ladies in the kitchen, Jeanne Elliot and Joan West fill- ed in until replacements arrived. Stan and Ruth Foster and Alma Cox saved the day at very short notice only to have our day cut short by a heavy downpour ac- companied by thunder & lightning. The winner was decided by * most points for two games. Orval Atkinson, Marg Atkinson and grandson Wayne from the Whitby 'Club were winners with 41 points. The Port Perry team of Dennis Smith, Joyce Storry and Edna Smith were runners-up with 39 points. Rowing Club in action Last summer, a small group of dedicated people in Oshawa and Port Perry attempted to form a rowing club to serve the Region of Durham. Happily, through their efforts, this has been accomplished. It's official, announcing the arrival of The Durham Region Rowing Club! - The Club will be centrally located in Oshawa but plans to eventually make boats and equip- ment available to members in their own communities.
