This shift . in demographics is driving many groups in our society to realign with the needs of an aging population. By the year 2000, a mere 12 years away, Statistics Canada predicts the population of our country will reach more than 27 million. Of that, nearly 4 million will be 65 years or older and of those it is estimated there will be 1.5 million in this age group in Ontario. One segment of the economy which is adapting to the needs of an aging population is the real estate - housing profession. For the most part, retirees to- day are an active and af- fluent group who still want their independence. For the real estate industry this means providing luxury, comfort, style and affor- dability in an independent unit.
