A number were pre- sent from a distance, and folks had the pleasure of seeing many old friends of former years; and a time of reminiscing with them was a highlight. Greeters at the door were Sam & Mabel Cawker. It was good to see again our guest speaker and friend, Nor- man Seli, who conducted the Ser- vice and brought an excellent message with his topic "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" based on Scripture taken from Luke 8:4-15. We follow with interest Norman's career in Church work. A male quartet from the Newcastle area, 'The Country Four" composed of Jack Allin, Don Staple, Merrill Brown and Glenn Allin, presented three har- monious renditions of "Turn the Radio On' - "You'll Never Walk Alone" - and "'I Asked The Lord" - a very gifted foursome! Sympathy is extended to Peter on the death of his father while they were there. Hazel Brooks has been visiting her sister in Windsor Nova Scotia. Fern and Doug Murray of Obituary Leonard Leonard Beadle entered into rest peacefully at the Port Perry Hospital on Wednesday, July 18, 1990. He was in his 82nd year. Leonard was born July 19, 1908. He was the son of the late Isaac and Emmelia Beadle. He attended the Fingerboard School. As a young man, Leonard was a hired man for several of the area farmers. He met his future wife, Reta Welch, at his job, working for Ar- mour and Rachel McMillan in Greenbank. Leonard and Reta were married January 29, 1941 at the brides home in Reach Twp. They had three children, Gary, Linda and Sandra. Leonard worked for Hogg and Lytle, Master Feeds and Maple Leaf Mills. He was a long time member of Kingston have been spending some time with her parents Rev. Charlie and Lila Clarke. John and Dianna Brough hosted a barbecue on Saturday evening for a number of their friends. Dur- ing the evening best wishes were extended to Chuck and Beth Willes who have been married twenty-five years and Roy and Dorothy Hope thirty-six years. Beadle the Oddfellow Lodge. Had a great sense of humour and was a devoted friend to many. Leonard is predeceased by his wife Reta (1988). He will be sad- ly missed by his children, Gary and his wife Pam of Prince Albert, Linda and her husband John Rankin of Listowel and San- dra and her husband Michael Benns of Port Perry. Loving grandfather of Caralee Beadle, Shawn and Stephen Rankin and Michelle Benns. Brother of Fleda Sleep of Lindsay. Gertrude Boe of Tilsonburg and predeceased by Charles, Fred and Earl. A funeral service was held Saturday, July 21, 1990 at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry. Rev. officiated. Luncheon Hosted A very tempting luncheon was "hosted" by Chris Davis of Hyde House, Scugog Point Road, when she entertained Neta Fish, Blackstock, on her birthday, Tuesday August 14, at her spacious, attractive home. Other guests were her mother Christina Henderson of Edinburgh, Scotland, who is visiting in Canada for some weeks; and a neighbour Mabel Cawker. After the lovely luncheon; top- _ped off with an elegant birthday cake; gifts were opened by Neta, and a time of socializing was en- joyed. Our very best wishes to celebrant Neta for a great year ahead. A Great Party! Sincere thanks to Harry & Ruth Gay for hosting 75 golfers at their summer home in Caesarea. It was the annual two-ball foursome for good friends. In attendance was with Mayor of Scugog Township, Mayor Howard Hall and wife Zula. The Golden Slippers entertain- ed, along with Peter the magi- cian, and Archie the piano player. A wonderful evening of fun and sociability; and Ruth & Harry were a very gracious host and hostess. Family News Jim & Audrey Leishman and son William of Reaboro, were guests with mother Neta Fish on Sunday evening; and Wm. is spending the week before School opens with his Grandma and his cousins, Chad, Craig, and Alanna. Ecumenical Service The Ecumenical Service at Blackstock Rec. Centre on Sun- day evening was very well attend- ed, and the programme was good. Some ministers were on holidays; The Rev'd Charles Bull of St, John's Anglican was the Chair- man for the evening. Fair Time It is that time once again for the commencing of the Fall Fairs. This coming Saturday, August 25th, is our local Blackstock Fair; where all the action takes place in the one day. Try to attend; you'll find plenty of fun, excitement and interest with the many activities taking place. Port Perry Fair The 1990 version of the Port Perry Fair will be coming up on the Labour Day weekend; September 1, 2 and 3, with many attractions for all ages. Last year's Fair was a great success, and this year promises to equal or even better the 1989 Fair; SO; plan to attend this very fine Fair! You won't be disappointed!
