Registration for figure skating starts soon at Scugog arena Port Perry Figure Skating Club is set for a new season. We are pleased that we have several ex- cellent coaches returning this season - Donna Newbold, Valerie Tunstall-Yamada, Mike Sander- son and Simpson. We would also like to introduce our new coaches - Celia Sanford and Pamela Watson. Our Senior Amateur Coach will be Angie Dowson of Prince Albert. All are qualified coaches under C.F.S.A. (Canadian Figure Skating Club) League n In an exciting tournament B&R Electric won a well fought second against the not really so mean Green(bank) Machine. What a season we've had - Electrifying! All stars shone as pitcher and cat- cher and talented boys became a winning team. Congratulations to all the parents who helped, especially Registration is on Wed., Sept. 5 and Thurs. , Sept. 6 from 6-8 p,m. at the New Scugog Arena, Regional Road 8, Port Perry. C.F.8.A. has introduced a new test system that we will be using this season. All of our coaches have been qualified in the new system. The new test system places a strong emphasis on stroking skills therefore the club has arranged specific sessions for the junior and senior skaters to You on their stroking and dance skills. . dads Piersma, Fraser and Karkoulas. Charity golf tourney won by Port men Two golfers from Port Perry were members of the team that won the annual chari- ty tournament for the Oshawa and District Assoc. for Commu- nity Living. ~ Murray Parliament and John McClelland teamed up with Brian Clark of Oshawa and Bob Marjerrison of Bow- manville to record a score of mi- nus 18 (best ball with handicap) at the Fawn Brook course Sun- day morning. Mr. Marjerrison subbed for Gord Cotter of Oshawa, who was unable to play on Sunday. Seventy teams started the tournament August 11, with the top nine returning for the second round to determine a PLEASE RECYCLE THIS PAPER winner. Three teams were tied for second at minus 16. They were headed by Grant Menzies, George Whitehouse and Bob McBurnie. The event raised $14,500 for the Association. Organizer Terry Kelly of Oshawa, said that over the last 17 years, $205,000 has been raised. There were no prizes which means that every penny re- turned goes to the charity. The winning team was sponsored by McCallum Trans- port of Oshawa. Club Base Fee is $170.00 with a $10.00 fee for C.F.S.A. member- ship and a $10.00 fee for carnival which covers the cost of a skater's picture and partially offsets the cost of running the year end show. Optional programmes for the 90-91 season are patch, stroking and dance sessions. Each optional -programme has its own fees. As with all things, Port Perry Figure Skating Club is run by a group of volunteers who are in- terested in providing figure skating to the area's children.
