a surprise retirement party for Time for local fall fairs Port Perry Fair Coming Up Three exciting days of family fun for the 1990 Port Perry Fair; which will "kick off" this coming Labour Day weekend; Saturday, Sept. 1, Sunday, Sept. 2 and Mon- day, Sept. 3. There will be something for everyone at the Fair; young and old alike! The District of Ontario South Women's Institute will again have a booth in the Christie building; under the capable leadership of District President Helen McKean. An information centre will be a feature with knowledgeable peo- ple on hand to answer questions. Literature will be available. Re-cycling will be the strong point of the "set-up." Items that have been re-cycled will be on display. A silent auction on a quilt will also be featured. A Rest Nook; of great interest last year; will be enlarged this year; more tables and chairs; to enjoy your cookies and coffee, and have a break. Pennies for Friendship jars will be placed - so you may give pennies or whatever you wish to aid our World organiza- tion - the Associated Country Women of the World. This will be in the Christie Building; so watch for us folks, we'll be happy to meet you there! Blackstock Fair A Success The 125th annual fair at Blackstock was a fine success with a good ' attendance. Lieutenant-Governor Lincoln Alexander was present to official- ly open the event. President David Petrie & the directors of the Fair are to be congratulated on another successful fair. We were pleased that Katie Mairs of Nestleton had the prize winning Champion Cake at the Fair. Our warmest congratulations to Katie! Winners at the Fairs Ralph & Leona Sadler of Nestleton, did well at Blackstock Fair; winning 2 firsts with his Hackney and the Pony 1 first and 2 seconds. At Peterborough Fair they won the small class in the Hackney Stake. Our congratula- tions! MacKenzie family had a good show at C.N.E., Sutton and Barrie Fairs. Good going! Family News 9 year old William Leishman of Reaboro, had a great holiday this past week with his cousins, Chad, Craig and Alanna Holland, with grandma Neta Fishanduncleand aunt, Calvin & Yvonne Holland, acting as host and hostessess. Wm. went bowling; to Blackstock Fair; and many other entertain- ing activities before returning home with his parents on Satur- day evening. Farmer Sam has been building a fence on the north road this past week, and had expert workmen for the operation; in the persons of James & John Cawker of Man- chester. A great pair of young gentlemen to be sure. The Churches On Sunday, August 26th, at 11 a.m. a very warm day, the people of the Caesarea Community Church met with an average con- gregation. Guest speaker was Mr. Alex Elliott of Uxbridge. Mac- Donald (the former Dorothy Bulmer) of Orillia in the pulpit at 11 a.m. Joyce Taylor played the organ. The responsive Psalm No. 27 and Scripture from Jeremiah 50 & Matthew 9. On the sermon, speaking on 'Religion For All Races' we are encouraged to witness our Faith in God and work together for World Peace. The Church Anniversary Ser- vice will be September 16th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wm. Fairley as minister; and special music by the Seniors Club of Port Perry. The luncheon will follow the service. Next Sunday, Sept. 2at 11 a.m. Rev. Dorothy MacDonald will be the minister. All are invited to attend. Later in the evening, the fami- ly made a presentation of a beautiful picture to Alan; and many speeches with a touch of humour were made; and a host of good wishes extended to him!
