On October 3, the Bantam In- sulators of Port Perry held their first home game, and first game of the season. Though only an ex- hibition match-up, the "Turtles" walked away with the first victory of the season. The Bantam 1 team, sponsored by Ken and Dianne Goreski, was first to tally. At the 12:09 mark of the first period, Mike Sluggett, brought wp from number two team, blew a sizzler that caught the mesh of the top corner after receiving a pass from Jeff Card from the corner. Although Port dominated throughout the period, the clip- pers of Stouffville were able to get the tying goal be shooting the puck along the ice, which deflected off one of Port's defensemen and just slid by goalie Rick Hutchinson. The goal came at the five minute mark of the first. Port though, destined to win the game, scored in the final minutes of the period on a quick shot by Sean Ellis with assists going to Scott Wylie and Joe Broadworth. Port dominating in the visitors end, was kept off the scoreboard as they had many chances to capitalize. There was no more scoring in either periods. The final score was Port Perry 2, Stouffville 1. On the following Monday, Oc- tober 8, Port began a three game road trip. Port's first stop was in Stouffville for the rematch. Now meaning a bit more because of it being a league game, Port rose to the occasion and played a much better offensive game than the previous one. Port was first on the board as Sean McEnaney scored with assists going to Dave Bourgeois and 'Lindsay Parry. This goal came just 20 second into the first period. Stouffville came back four minutes later to even things up. Port tallied once again in this period to end the scoring for the first period. Scoring the go ahead goal was Sean Ellis with a nice solo effort. There was no scoring for either team in the second as both teams play a fairly well defensive period. However, in the third at the 10:30 mark, Scott Wylie scored as the goalie was down and "Smilie"' Wylie just popped it over him. Drawing assists were Parry, se- cond of the night, and Corey Bricknell. Port Perry got more insurance just 11 seconds later as Jeff Card skated down his wing, and let 'er go to put her in the top shelf. The assists went to Parry, third of the night and Mike Sluggett. That finished the scoring and Port walked away victorious as the Clippers went down to defeat once again. The final score Port 4 - Stouffville 1. On Tuesday, October 7, Port travelled to Cobourg. Port failed to score in this game as our team did not play as well as it did against Stouffville and very few shots were fired on net. Cobourg scored once in the first, twice in the second and once more in the third to give them the victory 4-0. Ports next stop was Bowman- ville where the "turtles" played a much better offensive hockey game with lots of shots on net, and some goals as well! The home team got the first goal at the 7:30 mark of the first. The score remained 1-0 after one period of play. It took Port just thirty seconds to even the tally sheet at one goal apiece when David Pashley rifl- ed a shot by the Bowmanville goalie. Assisting on the goal were linemates Jeff Card and Duane Empringham. After this goal was scored, 'Turtle Power' was in ef- fect as Port scored three unanswered goals. The second goal was scored by Lindsay Parry due to great digg- ing in front of the net. Assisting on the goal, Corey Bricknell and Pete King. The third goal was scored by Jeff Card on a play where the Bowmanville goalie put a beauty of a pass on the stick of Jeff and he just walked in and scored. Assisting on the play, Pashley and Empringham. The fourth goal was scored by Duane Empringham wiith Sean McEnaney and Corey Bricknell grabbing the assists. This finished off the tallying for this game and the final score for this game was Port Perry 4, Bowmanville 1. A thank you goes out to Chad Kearns for the filling in for an in- jured player.
