Six members of the og Fire Department will be off to Seminole, Florida in two weeks to test their extrication meth- ods with the best in the world. The team ffom Scugog's Hall 1 will be competing in the Sev- enth International Extrication Competitions, This will be trip number four to this competition for the local fire department. Extrication is the fancy term used for getting victims out of cars and other vehicles after an accident. The competitions this year will be held from October 31, until November 3. The team placed in the top six in last year's competition held in Montgomery County, Mary- land. The team from Scugog will be competing against 20 other fire and rescue departments from Canada, the United States, and Great Britain. According to team leader Don Steele, the trip is a lot more than just a competition. It is a learning symposium for the members, with practical and classroom workshops present- ed by extrication experts. The Scugog Fire Depart- ment has been involved with extrication of accident victims using "The Jaws of Life" for many years. Over the years the equipment and techniques have become very sophisticat- ed. The department has over $50,000 in extrication equip- ment, but for the competitions the team must use the equip- ment provided by Hurst. le the six members of the team have been practising for months for the competition, all members of the Scugog Fire De- partment receive on-going training in extrication tech- niques. Although the team takes the competition very seriously, the techniques, and tips they learn in Seminole are what could make the difference between life and death back home. flohy of GREAN SIRE specializing In Continental Cuisine EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT is CHATEAUBRIAND NIGHT includes Caesar Salad prepared at your table, Pasta Appetizer, Chateaubriand carved at your table, Cherries Jubliee ................. $50.00 per Couple 21 GREEN STREET, WHITBY 686-8599 a a ys a i [2 untry Corners Cafe 1/2 Ib.
