From Page 27 Margaret Mountjoy's worship was entitled "Split-level Thanksgiving' She compared life to music, written on two levels. The bass line and the treble line are marked by two distinctive clefs...the bass line is like the bot- tom line of earth-bound realities that can be seen-touched-heard. It is the totally human side of life and can be good or bad; happy or gloomy. The treble line is the transcendent - the divine reality that sometimes erupts in the midst of the commonplace. It is the gift of God. The harmony of the two levels (the two worlds) is sometimes hard to achieve. But life, like music, is best when the two levels are brought together. It is the blend that makes music and life beautiful. Gwenyth Thompson had charge of the programme - the objective of which was to make us aware of a third segment of family violence which began to "come out of the closet" in the 1980's; Abuse of the Elderly. After we established three broad categories of abuse: Physical, Psychological and Financial we had a lively discus- sion of Where .... Who are the vic- tims, Who abuses .... and Why do they abuse, How do they abuse and What can we do about it 7??? In order to do something we must: acknowledge, name, con- front and then think of ways to prevent. At the close of the meeting, the unit members (mostly in the elderly over 60 category) went out into a day turned sunny, more aware of how some of our brothers and sisters in our socie- ty are suffering.
