Pee Wee A Legionaires | | Pee Wee A Legionaires hosted Stouffville Friday, October 19. Both teams got out to a lingering start. Port was unprepared for the abundance of shots discharg- ed at Port's netminder, Stouffville outshot Port 15-3 and popped in 3 by the end of the 2nd period. During the intermission Port's coach, Gary Geer, encouraged the team with positive thoughts igniting them for the 3rd period. Kent Lefort aided Ian Shrigley as Ian slid one through the goalies pads. 3 minuted later Matt Mor- ris (known better as Port's Ray Bourque), found the corner for Port's second goal with help from Jay Tredway and Jeff Clarke. Jay Tredway fired Port's 3rd goal from a tough angle after receiv- ing a pass from Daryl Bourgeois. With time winding in the third, Kent Lefort earned his second point by scoring with his firm wrist shot from a pass by Jay King. Brandon Hammond and Scot Prechitko were outstanding . by stopping 22 of Stouffville's 25 shots. Great game men! These guys travelled to Lindsay on Sat. Port's coach, Gary Geer was forced to watch the game from the sidelines as Port ac- quired several infractions amoun- ting to a 1 game suspension. Lindsay scored the 1st goal 4 min. into the game. Port return- ed the favour 1 min. into the 2nd period, as Jeremy Geer tied it up with a beautiful set-up from Matt Morris and Daryl Bourgeois. Lindsay recaptured the lead late in the 2nd period. Port came out flying, scoring only 2 min. in- to the 3rd period, as Craig Laird stood in front of Lindsay's net to grab a Matt Morris rebound and slide it between the pads. %- With a mere 6 min. left in the 3rd, Kent Lefort blew an over- powering wrist shot into the top " right hand corner giving Port the lead. 2 min. later, Matt Morris scored from a tremendous pass from Ian Shrigley, extending the lead. One min. later, Jay King ig- nited a bullet past Lindsay's sieve, by a beautiful play set up by Ian Shrigley. and Tom Chambers. Daryl Bourgeois and Kent Lefort assisted him. Once again Ports strong goaltending (Scot & Bran- don) held Lindsay to only 2 goals as Port won 6-2. Great outing Port. Port travelled to Markham for an exhibition game Sunday and looked sharp. An equal first period with Port outshooting Markham 5-4. Late in the 2nd, Port's Craig Laird standing on the doorstep found a shot from Matt M. and tucked it away for Ports 1st goal. With 3 min. left in the 3rd Matt M. meshed Ports second goal with help from Jeremy Geer and Jay King. It was a hard hitting game but one hit 'stood out. Craig L. caught a Markham Winterhawk with his head down and compress- ed him heavily into the boards go- ing down like a sack of potatoes. he Markham rinkrats horned the Port team off 4 min. early. Port skated away with a 2-0 vic- tory making it 3 wins, 0 losses for the weekend. What a team. In exhibition Sunday, October 14 Port skated to a delightful 11-1 victory. Ian S. scored twice on his first shift and assisted on 2 others. Billy Zaparanuik scored one and Craig Laird got a goal and an assist. Matt M. achieved a goal and 2 assists as did Kent L. Jay King acquired a pair with an assist and Jay Tredway counted 2 goals and one assist. Jeremy Geer picked up 3 assists while Tom Chambers and Daryl B. each picked up an assist. Port's pipemen faced 6 shots. Great effort! Canadian Tire lose first league match On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Port Perry Canadian Tire Midgets hosted Uxbridge in an exhibition game that was a goalies' nightmare. The home town team literally filled the net with 9 goals scored. Stuart Dyer tallied 6 (this must be a record) Jason McBride got 3, Noah St. Amand and Ryan Picard got 2 each, Scott Airey, Todd Taylor, Craig Leask, Scot Men- zies, Jeff Labanovich and Chris MacLeod all had singles. These guys had a lot of help with assists going to Daryl Vander Slagt, Scott McLennan, Scott Airey 2, Todd Taylor, Brad Moase, Ryan Picard, Craig Leask 2, Scot Menzies 2, Stuart Dyer 1, Jason McBride and Chris MacLeod 2. The Uxbridge team managed to tally 3 of their own but this was Port Perry's all the way. The first league game for the Midget 2 team was in Stouffville .on Oct. 11. The 3rd period was much better as the team got right into the game with more evenly matched play. Scott Menzies tallied 1, assisted by Brad Moase and Stouffville added 1 more to finish the game at 5-1. On Oct. 15 the Port team travelled to Uxbridge and was once again victorious although the score was a little closer. The first period Brad Moase scored twice assisted by David Velman, Todd Taylor and Darryl Vander Slagt; Todd Taylor and David Volman also scored 1 each with an assist to Nathan Brown. Stuart Dyer scored in the second period assisted by Darryl Vander Slagt and Craig Leask. a In the third period goals wer scored by Craig Leask (2), Todd Taylor and Ross Stainton with ~~ assists to Ryan Picard, David Volman, Noah St. Amond, Ross Stainton and Darryl Vander Slagt. On October 17, the Midgets hosted the team from Manvers. The Canadian Tire team opened the scoring in the second period when Darryl Vander Slagt fired one past the Manvers goalies on a pass from Brad Moase. Scott Airey notched another one assisted by Craig Leask and Stuart Dyer. Todd Taylor ripped a nice snap shot over the goalie's shoulder with Brad Moase and Noah St. Amand assisting just before the end of the 2nd period. The Manvers team came out in the 3rd period determined to get on the scoreboard and managed to get 2 goals. With a minute left they pulled their goalie but Port Perry's Ross Stainton flipped one in the empty net assisted by Stuart Dyer to clinch the game 4-2. = .
