Officials with the Hospital appeared before council Mon- day to ask for a '"re- consideration" of the decision not to pledge $50,000 in 1990. "Our impression was that council had made a three-year commitment to the building fund," said fund chairman Jerry Taylor. Council ear-marked $650,000 in 1989 for the hospital expansion. Hospital officials thought that a similar amount would be pledged from the Township this year and in 1991. The hospital has been giv- en approval by the provincial government to proceed with two phases of the expansion at a cost of about $4 million. Councillor Yvonne Chris- tie, who chairs the Township fi- ance committee, said Monday that the Township reserve funds are not likely to improve in the couple of years due to the expected slow-down in develop- ment activity. She said later that the council has the option to ear- mark funds for the hospital in 1991, but there is no money in the 1990 Township budget for the hospital expansion. Hospital fund-raising for the expansion project has so far generated just over $2.6 million in pledges, but just over $1 mil- lion of the pledged total has yet to be collected. i The two phases due to start construction next fall -include enlarged emergency, lab and x- ray departments, followed by interior renovations to physio- therapy, the business office and health records. The hospital has still not received final provincial ap- proval to proceed with an addi- tion for 22 chronic care beds.
