me Juveniles continue winning The Port Perry Key-Bar Juvenlies are off to a good start this season, sporting a 3-1-1 record in league play. On Thursday November 2, Port Perry hosted Sunderland, hoping to average their only loss this season to this team. Port Perry opened an early lead on a goal by Paul Kett from Mike Sorley and Andrew Steele, but Sunderland tied the game with less than a minute left in the first period. Sorley was the markman early in the second period on a pass from Paul Kett, taking a 2-1 lead, but Sunderland popped another goal to tie the game once again. Port opened the scoring in the third on a goal by Derek Fit- zgerald on passes from Andrew Steele and Mike Sorley. Scoring late in the period was Jamie Men- zies, assisted by Mark Barkey and Eric Grovenor, But Sunderland also played strong in the third, scoring two goals as well. The game ended in a 4-4 tie. On Sunday, November 4, the Juveniles travelled to Newcastle to play an exhibition game against Bowmanville. Port Perry defeated Bowmanville quite easi- ly by a score of 5-2. Port scored first on a goal by Jamie Menzies from Mark Barkey. 29 seconds later Eric Midgets claim back to back wins Port Perry Midget 1's, coached and sponsored by Doug Scott enjoyed a very successful week on theice. The team played back to back games and came out with wins in both. The first was against arch- rival Cobourg, but right from the drop of the puck, Port took control of the affair. With some tough hitting and clever puck handling, Port threw the opposition off its game plan completely. Jeff Parry scored his first of four markers, early in the game with help from Sean McEnaney and Steve Laird. Jan Heyes then got his first of three with assists to line mates Todd Taylor and Dan Sluggitt. Everything was going the right way for the Midgets in this one as they went to post a well deserved victory. The next night, hosting the Whitby Selects, the Port Mid- gets turned in a powerful per- formance as they coasted to a (believe this) 15-1 victory. Ten different players had a hand in the scoring with Jan Heyes, Jody Logan and Steve Staniland each notching two. Staniland's goals came off booming shots from the point. Singles in this one came from the sticks of Laird, Ennis, Sluggitt and Parry. Pineridge Atom update Our toughest competition to date came from the 'Flying Dut- chmen" team visiting from Bowmanville Thursday Nov. 1st. From the drop of the puck those Dutchmen really were flying. Within the first period they had already chalked up two quick goals. The Pineridge team kept battling back to no avail. Our on- ly three defencemen for this game tired quickly trying to gain ground on the strong offensive style of the Bowmanville squad. Despite efforts from our forward lines to take the plhy into the other end, the Dutchmen proved to be a very tough opposition and Pineridge finally succumbed to a 6-0 loss. For Saturday's exhibition game, Port travelled to Oshawa to meet the L.N.H.L. Bruins. After Thursday's defeat, it was a decidely different group of players. From the onset of the game it was exciting action all the way. - Before the end of the first period on a neat little goal by Ian Parliament assisted by Danny Lyons and Jamie Strickert Pineridge went ahead 1-0. But with only 45 seconds to go in the first Oshawa tied it up. In the se- cond period with only three defencemen once again playing hard most of the action was in the Bruins end. Despite dominating the majority of the play, Oshawa managed to go ahead 2-1 midway through the second period. Pineridge never let up and came out for a very strong and ex- citing third period. The tireless ef- forts of the Oshawa goalie manag- ed to stop our many shots on net. Oshawa had their work cut out tor them but finally squeaked another one by for a 3-1 lead. Never giving up, the Pineridge team battled back and on a good set up from Scott Sanderson and Jamie Strickert, Blayne Kin- nunen snuck one past the goalie to make it 3-2. A very unrelenting Scott Jeffrey with much deter- mination tied it up late in the third on a pass from Danny Lyons and Ian Parliament. Outstanding performances by all the players and our two net minders made this one of the best to date. Newcastle came within one at the end of the first period. Menzies scored his second goal of the game which was shorthand- ed on passes from Mark Barkey and Paul Kett, giving them a 3-1 lead. But Newcastle answered to that goal and came within one to end the second. The game belonged to Port in the third with Paul Kett scoring twice. The first was assisted by Barkey and Menzies, and the final goal by Kett was from Scott Porter and Jason Weinhold. Fine goaltending came from Jamie Brown, helping Port to an easy 5-2 victory. The Juveniles next game is on Tuesday, November 6 at home against Oakwood. Face-off is at 9:00 p.m.. Petite A's win 2-1 over Barrie Our Petites are certainly look- ing good in their new sweaters. The first period started with a goal by Cindy Verschuuren, unassisted, but with some good passing by Shona Moase & Cara Vander Slagt. Barrie came back to tie it up with 8:59 left. Due to a penalty Barrie had the advantage but Jannine Ham- mond, assisted by Dana Hooker fired the ring past the goalie to make the score 2-1. Again with an unnamed player in the penalty box, Bonnie Joe Norton, Brooke Shanley and Alicia Cracknell had their work cut out for them defen- ding our #1 goalie Katie Senyk. Again shorthanded, Laura Hooker scored assisted by Cara Vander Slagt, and they repeated that move again, to end the period, ahead 4-1. This period showed good checking by all the girls. Red sticks 2 and 7, Alicia Cracknell and Jana Senyk are to be mentioned for their good defen- sive work. Starting off the 2nd period and shorthanded by 2 players, Jannine Dana & Jana had to work to keep Barrie at bay. Goal #5 by Shona Moase, assisted by Cindy and Cara and #6 was shot in by Cindy V. assisted by Laura Hooker and Alicia Cracknell. Barrie came back with a third goal but we proved to be too much for their team. Good game girls! I'm sure our coaches are pleased with your en- thusiasm and sportsmanship. Special thanks to Country Lane Realty, our sponsors. We have a tournament coming up in Nepean at the end of November, and the girls should prove to be very competitive.
