Among those attending from Scugog Community Care, were Dorothy Imperial, Barb Bracken, Marg Wilbur and Marj Preston. The event, attended by over 90 representatives, was jointly spon- sored by three provincial associa- lions; namely Meals on Wheels of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Visiting Homemakers, and the Ontario Home Support Associa- tion. Provincially, the three Associations are currently enter- Ing into discussions concerning the eventual merger of the three organizations. Discussing the ramifications of this merger on local service delivery prompted lively discussion. Further discussion centered around the proposed reform strategies of Long Term Care. Participants were introduced to the new area manager, Dennis Ferenc. He encouraged represen- tatives to be active participants in the reform process. Client needs may include transportations ser- vice, meals on wheels, homemak- ing, home maintenance, friendly visiting, information and referral, security and response. Guest speaker, Richard Johnston, first Executive Direc- emergency tor for Durham Region Communi- ty Care Association and former M.P.P., provided insight into cur- rent government policy direc- tions. His comprehensive knowledge of home support ser- vices, combined with his political savvy, resulted in a most infor- mative session. Workshops ranging from "Creative Strategies tor Rural Service Delivery" to Preparing for Change' were offered on the second day of the Joint Conference. Bonnie Davidson, R.N., M.Sc.N., wrapped up the two-day event with her challenge to face the future with confidence and renewed commitment to caring, courage and creativity.
