Pineridge Atom team update Over the past weekend the Pineridge Atom #2 team travell- ed to Bobcaygeon for a tourna- ment. In their first game they were up against a team from Oakville. This game was worth the price of admission. In a seesaw battle with end to end play, the Pineridge team excelled in all areas of the game. Led by the strong goaltending of Jon Chambers and the hard working efforts of all the defensive crew, the team played a great game of hockey. Oakville opened the scoring at the five minute mark of the first period, but not to be outdone, Port charged back to tie. The constant forechecking of Jamie Strickert and Scott Jeffrey finally paid off as Scott Sanderson jabbed the puck home. Going into the third with the score tied at one Port started to come on strong and the hard work of Dannv Lyons prov- ed fruitful as he scored the go ahead goal on an unassisted effort. The nailbiter continued, but un- fortunately Oakville tied it up late in the third and set the stage for overtime. The five minute sudden death was not for the faint of heart. All the crowd was on the edge of their seats. The hero of the day was Scott Jeffrey as he scored the winner for Port, assisted by Scott Sanderson to send the team in the next round. Unfortunately the next round was not as rewarding, as the team was up against a strong team from Flesherton. The team played as well as they could but Lady Luck had left them. Scoring the lone goal for Port was Blayne Kinnunen, assists to Adam Hobbs and Jason Heyworth. Blayne picked up the MVP for the tournament. Better luck next time team.
