by Scott Howey Congratulations to Gord Norton and his team of Rich Poole, Mike Susko and Gerry McKenna from Annandale who captured the Blue Light Tankard Zone 5 playdowns this past weekend here in Port Perry. Norton defeated Bob Turcotte of Oshawa in the A side final which dropped Turcotte to the B side final against Paul Sutton from Whitby on Monday night. (This game had not been played at press time). Three Port Perry teams were entered in this competition. The Ian Griffen team of Paul Griffen, Terry Howsam and Roger Watson defeated Murray Miller of Oshawa but were dropped to the B side by Sutton. The foursome were then eliminated by Ralph The home game for the Port Perry Canadian Tire Midgets was Wednesday, November 28 with the visiting team from Bobcaygeon. Nathan Brown opened the scor- ing with a hard shot from the point with assists to Stuart Dyer and Michael Williams. Later on in the first period, Stuart Dyer wheeled in to pop it by the goalie assisted by Michael Williams and Jason Coutalakis. Less than a minute later, Brad Moase scored when he, Jason McBride and Andy Wilson kept up the pressure following the centre ice face-off to make it 3-0. Then Fairman of Port Perry. Scott Howey's team of Dave Roth, Greg Timbers and Glen James last their opening game to Gary Grant of Uxbridge and then were forced out by Paul Lula of Annandale. The Ralph Fairman foursome of Bill Tredway, Stan Zuly, and Bruce Peters enjoyed the most success on the weekend. Dropping to the B side with an opening round loss to Turcotte the squad rallied with wins over John Brotherhood, Whitby; Ian Griffen of the host club; Paul Lula, An- nandale; and Rick Ferris from Sutton. The end of their run came with a loss to Sutton in the B semi- final. The weekend came off as a suc- cess for the club, the curlers, and the spectators alike. Many thanks Jason M. stripped the puck from the Bobcaygeon forward at the blueline and made a super rush to tally his first of the night. Stuart Dyer and Jason Coutalakis assisted on the last goal of the first period, which was scored by Michael Williams. This line capitalized again ear- ly in the second period, when Jason Coutalakis banged one in assisted by Michael and Stuart. There was a lot of action in the se- cond period, as Jason McBride, Stuart Dyer and Andy Wilson scored assisted by Michael Williams, Jason Coutalakis, Dave Volman, Brad Moase, Scott Men- are extended to all those who helped on the weekend including umpires Don Evans and Randy Scott, Scugog Equipment Rentals and Scugog Lumber for the use of their goods for seating, Dean Nadon from Labatts, and especially to the fans for coming out and showing their support. In other news, the Port Perry team of Kelly Evans, Laurel Grif- fen, Vicky Watson, and Carol Jackson travelled to Brighton to play in the S.0.L.C.A. Provincial Regional competition. The four- some were eliminated after their second game in the double- knockout event. This coming weekend three teams from Port Perry will be taking part in the Seagrams V.O. Mixed zone playdowns at the Ux- zies and Scott Airey. Noel Lovering played just great in the net holding Bobcaygeon scoreless for 2 periods. Michael Tripp was the netminder for the third period, and made a remarkable save inches from the blueline on a breakaway. Now that's cutting down the angle! The final goal was scored by Mark Andrews assisted by Scott Awrey and Scott Menzies. The 10-0 score for Port Perry is in- dicative of the kind of con"rol the Canandian Tire team had of the game.
