Loose The annual Community Care annual meeting was held last week at the Latcham Cen- tre. Pictured is the Advisory Committee for the upcoming year. Please recycle Community Care volunteers this newspaper have smother busy year Scugog Community Care vol- unteers spent just short of 8,000 hours serving 374 clients last year. Scugog Community Care held its 13th annual general meeting on May 16 at the Latcham Centre, to discuss the past year, and any new plans for this year. Currently Community Care has 321 clients on file, and 137 volunteerson file. This year, 118 new clients, and 39 new volunteers were re- ceived. Sixty clients, and 27 volunteers were discharged. In the past year, volunteers completed 11,987 tasks. The hours spent by volun- teers, the number of clients, and Meals on Wheels deliveries have all increased over last years'numbers. Meals on Wheels, which was started in 1971, delivered 3,783 meals this past year, up from the 1989 report of 3,254. Volun- teers spent a total of 913 hours delivering the hot dinners. It was also announced at the meeting, that the employees of C.I.B.C., as well as Royal Bank employees are delivering the meals. Community Care also offers a broad range of services to the community. The following is a breakdown of the hours spent and the number of tasks for spe- cific services provided by the volunteers. Volunteers performed 164 home maintenance tasks, 79 home help visits, 79 visiting, 2,034 telephone reassurance, 932 information and referral, 463 foot care, 41 errands, and escorts, and 41 income tax, fi- nancial councelling. Four new advisory commit- tee members were introduced at the meeting. Joining as members at large are Doris Grierson, Margaret McCon- nell, Joan Ongley, and Kathy Tromans. Mental health meeting The Canadian Mental Health Association/Durham Branch will be holding its 31st annual general meeting, Tuesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at the Michael Starr Building, 33 King Street West, Oshawa. Guest speaker is David Reville, Special Advisor to the Premier. Presentation: 'Getting out from under," will focus on consumer participation. Admission is free. R.S.V.P. date: May 24.
