"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 13, 1991 - 19 Bethesda Reach W.I. hosted picnic and games p Epsom News by Jean Jeffery An old quotation from R.W. Emmerson, "Go often to the house of a friend, for weeds choke an unused path." Bethesda Reach W.I. picnic was held on the beautiful grounds of the Boadway home. All were please to see old friends there, ex- pecially Dr. John Davies and Ralph and Vera Veitch. The games were quiet and enjoyed by all. The question of the day was Golden Slippers receive grant A group of retired people from Port Perry will receive a New Horizons grant for $5,771, the Honourable Monique Vezina Minister of State for Seniors and Minister of State for Employment and Immigration announced recently. The Golden Slippers Band will enhance its musical perfor- mances to seniors groups. Their program encourages active par- ticipation in singing and dancing with audience members and these retirees make a special effort to reach the hearing impaired. This project will enrich the life of many people who do not have ready access to entertainment. New Horizons is a federal government program that enables retired people to create projects of their own choosing. It offers grants to groups who undertake activities for the benefit of themselves and others in the community. The accent is on local needs as seen by older people and on their willingness to meet such needs. Time travel at day camp Day Camp campers enjoyed a week in the medieval times. Children will perform skits, play lots of games, and make animal puppets. On Friday the Day Camp travels to the Peterborough Zoo where campers can see many new and exciting things. Near neighbours gathered to wish Butch the best of everything in his new home. The cattle are gone, implements also and today the furniture - guess that says it all.
