"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, August 20, 1991-5 ol - 4 Lr EE Ww - Ontario Provincial Police Constable Harvey Blokland surveys the aftermath of a fatal accl- wks hi ER dent on Highway 12 near Manchester, which killed an Ajax woman. Canada Post says "business as usual" if postal workers strike Despite the threat of a mail strike on Friday, Canada Post insists it will be business as usual. Joyce Wells, a spokesperson for Canada Post, told the Port Perry Star they are optimistic that there will be a settlement before the Friday midnight deadline. If the two sides don't reach an agreement, the Cana- dian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) employees are in a le- gal position to begin some sort of work interruption. This would affect not only the CUPW inside workers but the Letter Carriers' Union of Cana- da as well. Ms. Wells said both sides are trying very hard to avoid any interruption in the service, and are optimistic they can reach an agreement. Although they are optimistic, she said Canada Post is making plans to keep the mail flowing. "Canada Post will be open for business maintaining the best service possible," Ms. Wells said. "We're definitely making plans to keep the customers served." She added it may not be the FULL TIME PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION PERMANENT FACILITY Central Air, Fully Equipped, Two Training Halls, Weights, Showers Training Available 7 Days A Week For One Low Cost Total Of Nine Black Belts To Assist About Our Chief Instructor SHIHAN DAI SEI HEI WALKER 30 years experience e 4th degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate (most popular Japanese style in the world) e 2nd degree Black Belt in Judo «Holds rank in laido Japanese Samuri Sword o Studied Aikido o Currently President of International Karate Association «Vice President of Karate Ontario (the only Provincial Government supported body) "private Lessons Available" - Join Anytime Hiryu Bushido Kai Martial Arts Centre 15258 Simcoe Street, Port Perry 985-0205 same type of service, but servic- es will still be available. The township is served by the Canadian Postmasters Associ- ation, as well as contractors who handle the rural routes, and are not involved in this round of negotiations. Although they are not in a po- sition to strike, the flow of mail to the area could be affected, but she says they are trying all they can to get the mail deliv- ered. Bob Walker, postmaster at the Port Perry Post Office, was also unable to determine how the service would be affected by a strike. "We'll deliver whatever mail we get," he said.
