A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Real Estate Section - Tuesday, October 8, 1991 - 11 St. John's anniversary On the weekend of Sept. 21 and 22, the St. John's Preshy- terian Church of Port Perry cked off ijtg 135th anniver- sary. The festivities started off with a delicious dinner in the Masonic Hall, which was served and prepared by the la- dies of the Eastern Star. The hall wag beautifully decorated by two ladigs from the congre- gation, Mrs. Charlene Knaap and Mrs. Marg Prentice. Dr. Dymond was the speaker for the evening with his well known wit and humor. Many greetings and congratulations were offered by Mayor Howard Hall, the Rev. Gemmell on be- half of the Presbytery, Rev. Le Page on behalf of the United Church in Port Perry and Prince Albert, and the repre- sentative of St. John's sister church in Ashburn, Mr. Hugh Knight. Welcome and thanks to all were expressed by the Rev. Dr. Shirley Gale, the interim min- ister for St. John's. Grace was offered by Dr. Gale. After the main course, a sing song was held, led by John Wil. liamson, an elder of St. John's. A beautiful cake was cut by Dr. Gale who was assisted in this duty by Lindsey Knaap, a mem- ber of the Sunday school. Afterwards we were enter- tained by the Golden Slippers from Scugog Island. A great time was had by all and one could see many happy faces around the tables. Old friend- ships were renewed and many new ones were made. On Sunday morning, the ser- vice which was well attended with Mr. Wm. Hopkins piping the congregation into the church. The speaker for the morning service was the Rev. J. Biggs. The Shecal music was provided by the quartet, "The Four Dads", from Uxbridge. Mrs. Carol Morrow and our organist Mrs. Jennifer Creighton did a wonderful job to make it a most outstanding service. In the evening, we had the pleasure of enjoying the choir "Celebrations" under the capa- ble leading of Mrs. Danny Ree- sor. The speaker for the eve- ning service was Rev. David Murphy. We started off with a very successful event for the coming year, and are planning to have many more in the future. Keep your eyes and ears open for more events and we hope that we may see many more people who will join us in the celebra- tion of our anniversary festivi- ties of St. John's Presbyterian Church in Port Perry.
