Their money is in their home, not in the bank, there is no overstock for food. The deci- sion placed on these people is they either use the money they do have to pay for a roof over their heads, or for food. Operation Scugog volunteers encourage residents to not only donate canned food, but also to drop off fresh bread, donuts, fruit and vegetables as well. Anyone who has an over- stocked garden and has excess vegetables is asked to .drop them off at the food bank on Wednesdays between 1-4 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall. The volunteers will also pick up donations if someone is un- able to deliver them. Residents may call Doris or Roy Grierson at 985-8346 who will come to your home to pick up the vege- tables. The perishable items will be distributed im ddiate- ly and the non-perishable items will be saved for the win- ter months. . Anyone with day-old bread or doughnuts is also encour- aged to donate them to the food bank. Operation 's "Let's Give Thanks By Sharing" food riz will be held this week- end. Donations can be dropped off at the Port Perry Fire Hall on Crandell Street on Thursday, Oct. 10 from 3-6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11 from 3-6 p.m. and Sat- urday, Oct. 12 from 10-4 p.m. Non-perishable food items can also be placed in the drop boxes at the Port Perry 1.G.A. -and Dowson's Valu-Mart. The cupboards at the food bank are empti- er than they have been in a long time, and volunteers are hoping a good drive will help keep the cupboards full until the next drive.
