"NP CEL SINY , TWITL NR TS sess Rema UOISEGT: TR 32 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 22, 1991 XL Novice Eaglettes defeat Markham The novice XL, Gas Bar Ea- glettes opened their season Saturday with a victory against Markham. Leanne Davison opened the scoring with two goals on the first shift. Leanne Layzell, with her first ever goal gave Port a 3-0 . Miranda Burgess not only as- sisted on all 3 goals, but net- ted the next two goals also. Assisting on Miranda's goals were Alaina Davis and Nicole Virtue. Newcomer to the Eaglettes Julia Leaman, playing a strong game at white stick ex- tended Ports' lead to 6-1 short- ly after Markham scored their only goal. Late in the game, Leanne Davison completed the hat trick with an unassisted goal. Nicole rounded out an ex- cellent game with a goal in the last minute of play. Strong defensive play by Sa- rah Verschuuren, who assist- ed on Julia's goal, steady Katherine Cooke and first game players Amy Weber and Janna Ostafichuk limited Markham to few good chances. Alicia Burgess handled these Markham chances with the ability she demonstrated as last seasons most improved player. Other new players Alaina Burger and Kristin Waller, graduates of the Bunny pro- gram, got their feet wet in novice competition. The coach- es and parents would like to extend their best to all the players for a successful and fun-filled season. His most recent accom- plishment was winning his weight division at the Canadian Arm Wrestling Championships. Please see story for mroe details. Local arm wrestler to compete with the best in the world in Israel From Page 28 Perry Arm Wrestling Club is training him in sit-down wres- tling. In four years of arm wres- tling Klock has done well. He has captured the Internation- als, placed second in the Pro- vincials, second in the Canadi- ans, was crowned Canadian Champion and now has a shot at the world title. What does he owe all his suc- cess to, another local former arm wrestler, Todd Steele who trained the two Klock brothers. "Mike and I owe it all to him (Steele). We didn't know much about arm wrestling but he trained us on a bench in his Legion Pee Wees lose first game On Friday night, the Port Perry Legion Pee Wee "A's" hosted Lindsay in what would prove to be our first loss in regular season play. Lindsay seemed to have a bit of extra zip throughout most of the game and Port was destined to play catch up from the open- ing whistle. Penalties, especially in the third period made it especially difficult to get back into it. Lindsay had leads of 3-2, 6-3 and 7-4 after each period and never really let the home team get untracked. Scoring for Port Perry were Matt Phillips, Kevin Hobbs, Daryl McEnaney and Tim Fitzpatrick with assists going to Tommy Chambers (2), Todd Parry , Rob Murphy and Fitz- patrick. Tempers flared late in the game and the results of this matchup has the team eagerly awaiting their next meeting. Please recycle this newspaper barn for about eight months," Klock said. Another thing Klock would like to see before he heads for Israel is a sponsor's name on his Team Canada shirt. He said there are about 44 tournaments a year of which he enters 25 to 30. These tourna- ments are all over Canada which is great advertisement for a sponsor. Sponsors of arm wrestlers see their logo or name on the back of the wrestlers' shirt which is seen on National ana International television. And before each wrestlers pull the sponors of each arm wrestler are announced. He said it is great advertisement for any company. Anyone interested in spon- soring Klock in his bid for the World Arm Wrestling Champi- onship flyweight title can call him at 985-8548.
