He’s worked especially hard on ensuring Port Perry retains its hospital over the past few years. A big ‘thumbs up’ to you John. and long overdue! Thumbs Down, way, way down, to the morons © who took it upon themselves to wind their just for the fun of it’ is about as low as it gets. The perpetrators should be made to apologize to the families publicly, from the post office steps. Too bad we don't still use ‘ye olde stocks’. Thumbs Up - to the Township of Scugog staff and politicians for their efforts to provide Habitat For Humanity with a build- 3g ing lot in Prince Albert, on which to build a home. It's a generous offer and we understand the township's insis- tence that the home is offered to a local family. It's unfortunate they don't feel they can wave the development fees for this long awaited project, but an offer to defer payments should certainly help move the project along. Thumbs Down - to the disgusting mess left in some sec- © tions of town by smokers who use our streets and sidewalks as their personal ashtrays. The number of butts thrown from car windows, and found lay- ing on sidewalks around variety stores, coffee shops = and restaurant patios is enough to turn your stom- -= ach. How can anyone be proud of our town if our * sidewalks look like the bottom of an ashtray? Thumbs Up - to local author/photographer Jonathan io van Bilsen and his great adventure novel ‘The T ee Seine Mask.’ Anyone who enjoys a good y mystery/adventure (Indiana Jones style) set in the wilds of Africa, won't want to miss this exciting je turner. Hopefully there will be another “Quentin” adventure! Copies of the book are available at Books Galore. Thumbs Down - for a decision by the township which could allow- ing Shoppers Drug Mart to proceed with the new 17,000 © sq. ft. store on the Railroadhouse Motel property. Planning in this area has been lacking for two decades and this deci- sion will only make a bad situation worse. Traffic along 7A Hwy. and Water St. is already a nightmare, especially on weekends. If allowed to proceed this could be one of the worst planning deci- sions made by this council. What are they thinking? * Photo of Dr. John Stewart courtesy of The Port Perry Star focus@observerpub.ca renne 1040490 |
