Half Marathon goes green While car truggle to develop vehicles that run on battery to help preserve the environment, Port Perry’s Angela Connolly has come up with a truly innovative idea. Many people around Scugog will recognize Angela as the person who started the popular “little country run” she dubbed the Port Perry Half Marathon nine years ago. The race has proved to be a tremen- dous success, providing an enjoyable venue for runners and walkers to compete This year Angela adds another dimension — A to gain the Council for Responsible Sport environmental certifi- cati To that end, she has developed a list of features to the race this year including hand crafted wood medals, on-line regis- tration only, cash prizes, “I didn’t drive to arrive” prize, car pooling prizes and handmade paper race-bibs embedded with plant seeds. When the race is over, the entire bib can be planted directly into the ground. “This Eco-Run will provide our runners with a carbon- neutral foot race demonstra tating to the world that we can make to the already popular event, launch of a “ground-breaking, or, as she puts it, “ground healing” initiative. Her idea - a planet friendly carbon-neutral race - a run using only sustainable materials and ecologically responsible suppliers. Kick-off Perry Trike Race... municipal office. Plans are underway for the kick-off of the second annual Port Perry United Way campaign and the local organization is planning on making it a fun event. Returning to the event will be the popular “Tour de that’s right a tricycle race!
