Organizers were thrilled that pledge submissions and donations exceeded expectations, surpassing funds raised from. each of the four previous dragon boat festivals. This year more than $140,000 will go towards increasing breast cancer aware- ness, providing support programs for breast cancer survivors and assisting in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in four local hospitals including Lakeridge Health in Port Perry, Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, Ross Memorial Hospital in the City of Kawartha Lakes and the R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre in Oshaw. The Breast Cancer Survivor Division winner this year was Windchesters-Dragons Abreast from Toronto. Snapdragons from Pickering topped the All Female Division and the Dur- ham Razorbacks from Pickering claimed top honours in the Mixed Crew Division sponsored by West Shore Village Inc. ‘Paddlers with Purpose’ was the highest pledge donor team and the top individual pledge donor was Laura Mickle- wright of the ‘Spirit of Emmanuel II’ from Port Per The Best Dressed team honours went to ‘The Filthy Oars’ from Port Perry and the ‘Tonsil Toss Team Chant’ winner was the ‘Guiding Lights’ whose home base is Lindsay.
