Jazz greats play Port Local jazz promoter Lynn McDonald has arranged for some of Canada’s best pianists to play in an intimate set- ting at Town Hall 1873 during a series of concerts over the next two months. The six-part series harkens back to the glory days of jazz when great listening rooms existed along Basin Street, Bourbon Street, Montreal Bistro and others. “The Piano Series” takes place in the ‘patron's lounge’ of Town Hall 1872, where the small audience will be treated to uninterrupted piano solos from the heart and soul of the masters. The concert series will take place six Fridays between now and mid-November. First in September is Cuban Hilario Duran a three-time ‘Juno’ award winner who was nominated for a Grammy for his Best Piano Solo CD. His latest award was the Life- time Achievement Award from Latin Jazz in the U.S.A. You won't believe your ears if you attend the September 11 concert beginning at 8 p.m. Also in September the nimble fingers of Dave Res- tivo will glide across the keyboards as part of “The Piano Series.” Dave is a three-time winner of the National Jazz Award as the best pianist in Canada.
