Carey Nicholson, manager of operations for the Scugog Council for the Arts Scugog council for Arts officially opens centre The Scugog Council for the Arts (SCA) officially opened the new Scugog Arts Resource Centre, at 181 Perry St., Port Perry, on February 26, as part of its mandate to cultivate a creative arts and cultural community. Expected to be on hand for the ceremony were MPP John O'Toole, Township of Scugog Mayor Marilyn Pearce and representatives from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, who helped fund the centre. In 2009, the SCA received a three year capacity building grant from the Trillium Foundation, to hire a manager of operations, enabling the organi- zation to improve governance and operations. Conveniently located just a block north of Queen St, it is spacious with an abundance of natural light and wall space, wheelchair accessible and lends itself well to a large variety of arts resource uses. The centre will pro- vide community arts programming for all ages, space for meetings, rehears- als, exhibitions, workshops, artist and community reference and resource services and other community arts related events and activities. The SCA looks forward t tinuing its vision of a cre- ative community with the opening of the Scugog Arts Resource Centre and welcomes involvement from the community on many levels for this excit- ing initiative, including program volunteers, planning and events commit- tee members, and general membership. The SCA is also actively recruiting candidates for its board of directors to be elected at the annual general meeting on April 27.
