T Y e Thumbs Down - One of our readers suggested a ‘thumbs down’ to the approval, by some misguided bureaucrat, © of an entrance/exit off 7A into the new Shoppers Drug Mart. Drivers will have to be very alert to cars turning right or left into Shoppers, plus the sudden stopping of cars going into the Highland Restaurant and Camegie Avenue. May we all make it through the summer in one piece! Thumbs Down -to anyone who is so lazy or inconsiderate that they won't return their shopping carts to the store (>in they are finished with them. Aside from clogging parking lots they often roll into cars causing damage. ‘We see shopping carts overturned in ditches, along the side of roads and abandoned on private properties, blocks from the store from which they originated. Maybe if there were a charge of ‘theft’ people would be more inclined to return them to their rightful owners. Thumbs Up - to Dan Stone for his ongoing commitment and effort to restore and beautify his buildings along J Port Perry's amazing main drag. Last month Dan contracted the Hope Brothers to recreate the brick parapets along the top of his Queen St. buildings. The results are remarkable and put a crowning touch on one of Queen Street's premier buildings. Fantastic Dan! Thumbs Up - to a Scugog Island woman whose generosity and compassion last month put a smile on a local resi- J dent. After seeing a ‘thumbs down’ in the May issue of Focus, about a heartless thief who stole a pet dog, we received a phone call from a woman offering a two-month old shih-tzu pup to her at no cost. The animal loving donor, who prefers to remain anonymous simply said, “It's a gift from the heart that made her feel good”. A big thanks! Thumbs Down -to the endless negative comments we hear about the work being done along the lakefront park © areas. If the naysayers and critics would just wait until the project is finished before condemning it, they might be pleasantly surprised. We suggest opponents of the project take a walk through the park and the new facilities when completed. They may find it's a great asset to the community. But if they don’t... then fire away! Thumbs Up - to our friends down at Mr. Sub on Scugog St. who are celebrating their 20th anniversary in Port J Perry with a special celebration until June 4. Emman- uel Vovs opened the store in 1990 and his two sons Spiros and Dimos have worked with him ever since. The boys are the smiling and welcoming faces behind the coun- ter today. To celebrate they will be donating $1 from every 12 inch and 50¢ from every six inch sub to the Resident's Fund at Community Nursing Home. What a great gesture! sTIONAL P} <r0rd ROdYe >.
