Lunch served from 11:00 a.m. Thums Thumbs Up - to the feds for finally getting to work on much needed repairs around the Port Perry post Office. Although access to the post office will create an inconvenience for a short period, it is good to see them finally addressing some of the issues. Now, if we could just get them to finish that ‘ugly’, rusty roof. Thumbs Down - to ‘vote by mail’ for all of its shortcom- ings. While the idea may hold merit in principle, in practice it has many flaws. We've heard numerous complaints about names being left off voters lists, wrong addresses and duplicate ballots. One example brought to our attention came from Don Orr who received ‘three’ ballots in the mail - one to Don Orr, another to Don H. Orr and a third one to Donna Orr. Three votes for one guy. | sure hope his choices are the same as mine! Thumbs Down - to lawn care firms and homeowners who ‘rake’ lawns’ with ear-piercing ‘leaf blowers’. The © shrill, high pitched whine is enough to make you scream, but unfortunately you won't be heard due to the decibel level emitted by these obnoxious machines. By all means, blow out your flower beds... but please, return to the tranquility of the ‘rake’ for your lawn. Thumbs Down - Anyone who uses Scugog Line 8, be- tween Hwy. #12 and Old Simcoe Rd. have reason to be angry. The bridge along this stretch of rural road, which spans the Nonquon River, has been closed to traffic all summer. We recognize it is in need of repairs... but are compelled to give a ‘thumbs down’ to those responsible for the lack of progress! Thumbs Up - By the time this copy of Focus on Scugog reaches our readers, a new mayor and council will 3g have been selected. We thought it fitting to give all the candidates who participated, win or lose, a ‘big thumbs up’ for their interest in democracy and thank them for their participation in Scugog’s municipal elec- tion. You're all winners in our books! 16 FOCUS - NOVEMBER 2010
