AN $85 VALUE! 48 FOCUS - DECEMBER 2010 Historical Society to hold its ‘Olde-Fashioned Christmas Carol Service’ at Presbyterian Church The historic St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Queen St., Port Perry will be this year’s location for Lake Scugog Historical Society’s annual “Olde-Fashioned Christmas Carol Service.” This is a favourite Christmas event where you can experience the true meaning of Christmas as you listen to the Christmas story and sing the many carols along with family, friends and neighbours. To complete the experience, Christmas refreshments will be served in the old tea room of the church. The inter-denominations service takes place on Sun- day, December 19 starting at 7 p.m. All are welcome. Mayor Pearce given standing ovation, heritage award for her support of local heritage On the evening of Wednesday November 17th the Heritage Scugog Committee held their annual Awards Night in the Greenbank Hall. The evening began with a highly informative talk on “Indigenous Scugog: The past 400 Years” presented by Dan Denby. The first award of the evening was the Architectural Conservancy Award presented to Dan Stone for his parapet restoration atop his Queen Street building, the former Courtice and Jeffrey building. The Media Award, was then presented to the Town- ship of Scugog Economic Development committee for the production of the promotional video “Township of Scugog: Experience It.” The video can be viewed on the Township website. Mr. & Mrs Larry Emmerson received The Publica- tion and Research Award for their donation of the paint- ings of Joseph and Elizabeth Bigelow to the Township's Archive and Cultural Centre. The Churchill family of Blackstock were then pre- sented with the Agricultural Heritage Award for their faithful restoration of the 160-year-old barn on their Cartwright farm. The final award of the evening was presented to the Lake Scugog Historical Society for its recognition of local son Dr. Herbert A. Bruce through the dedication of the park and a Provincial Heritage plaque in his honour. Paul Arculus, President of the Lake Scugog Histori- cal Society then gave a special award to outgoing mayor, Marilyn Pearce, for her encouragement of heritage endeavours during her time as Mayor of Scugog.
