Relatively new to the community, Amy Caughlin has held the position of AMY CEO of the Scugog Memorial Public Library for the past three years.Within a year of accepting the position, she fell in love with Port Perry so much that she purchased a home in town. Amy has been a professional librarian for almost 20 C AUGHLIN years. Prior to coming to Scugog, she worked at libraries in Markham, Pickering, Toronto and in her hometown of London, Ontario. 1.What career would you have pursued if you had not chosen your present one? | would find it hard to pick one because | have many interests! | am actively involved in commu- nity theatre both in Port Perry and Uxbridge. lam an editor, poet and storyteller. | love singing and have performed in many venues including the Markham Jazz Festival several years ago. | am also a total computer geek and | love designing web pages and figuring out new gadgets. | could have gone ina lot of directions but my current job gives me a lot of variety so perhaps | chose well. 2.What was your favourite toy growing up? My Fisher-Price Castle & Sesame Street were my favourites, but really | loved anything that involved a lot of imagination. | usually had some dramatic script playing in my head even while | was colouring or eating dinner - everything was a story. 3. Something you use every day, or can’t live without? My iPod. Music is almost as important as air to me. | have almost 8,000 songs on it and | love the portability. | can listen to it in the car, at a friend’s house or even at work (on a good day). 4.Your favourite home-cooked meal Cooking is something that I don’t do very often so I have to throw my mind back a bit. | used to love roast beef din- ners when | was younger. My favourite these days is probably a holiday turkey dinner. 5.Things that you like most about living in Port Perry / Scugog Township? | love the people here! They are warm and they care so much about their town; they really take part. Growing up in a city like London, I never really had the chance to experi- ence what it’s like to belong to a community. | have gotten to know more people in Port Perry in just three years than | have ever known anywhere else | have lived. 6.What person or persons do you li admire and woul te My three favourite non-fiction authors are | Malcolm Gladwell, Bill Bryson and Jay Ingram. | love their writing because they have minds that never stop. They are interested in everything and they express their ideas with passion and humour. Any of the three of them would be great to spend an afternoon with over a pitcher of beer. 7.
