Port Perry BIA invites Scugog to-4 celebrate a “Season Of Harvest” #7'Y One of the fall’s most anticipated events — the Port Perry “Chili Cook Off” is returning later this month as part of the local BIA’s “Celebration of the Harvest.” With T! giving quickly approaching the BIA has set Sunday, September 25 aside to tempt the tastebuds with some of Scugog’s best chili recipes. But the Celebration of Harvest isn’t just about chili. There will be plenty of entertainment, sales and events throughout the day as Queen Street is turned into a pe- destrian mall. A Queen Street Tent Sale will get underway begin- ning at 10 a.m., with fresh fruits, vegetables and lots of other locally grown products on hand. Other activities include Port Perry Lions Club host- ing their famous corn roast and big band music featuring The Fringe and Johnny Max! There will be an abundance of kid’s activities throughout the day along Queen Street sponsored by the BIA and YMCA with Pumpkin Decorating. Try your hand at the Mini Putt or let the kids wear off some energy in the giant blow-up jumping castle and enjoy Sundance Mead- ows Petting Zoo sponsored by Cuddly Bunny. Meta4 Galleries will have their clay activity again this year. With wheel demo by a local potter and a “make it with clay” station for all ages! Once again there will be a silent auction of beautiful fall centrepieces. These creations will be on display on Queen Street so you can stop by and place your bid on a locally crafted décor piece for your harvest table. Proceeds to Operation Scugog. Back by popular demand is the hands-free Pie Eating competition sponsored by M&M Meat Shop! Who will be able to eat a whole pie in the least amount of time? Be sure to register on-line or in person at the BIA office if you think you have what it takes! Also while in town, don’t miss the SCA’s “Juried Fine Art and Craft Exhibition”, which will take place in Palmer Park along the lakefront boardwalk. Of course one of the most popular parts of the har- vest festival will be sampling the tasty ‘chili’ creations by 15 of Scugog’s local businesses. Competing for the coveted “Best Chili in Port” title this year are - Antrim House Pub, Herrington’s Quality Butchers, Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant, Jester’s Court, The G-Moms, Sobeys, Queen Beans Coffee House, Harp & Wylie’s Canadian Grill House, Millar’s Market, Port Perry Villa, Salvatore’s Trattoria & Cafe, Scugog Island Cruises, Hank’s Pastries and Vos’ Independent. The Chili Cook Off will take place between 12 noon and 3 p.m. (while supplies last). Participants will go head- to- head in a “heated” friendly competition for the “Best Chili in Port! “ Stop by either of the BIA booths, one at each end of Queen Street, where you can pick up your Chili Cook Off” mug. For only $5- you will receive mug and spoon from which to taste chili samples from the participants. You will also be able to place your vote for the “People’s Choice” along with the “Judges Choice” award for the number one taste in town! Please remember - this is only while supplies last. Some participants run out earlier than others, so get there early and try them all. Mark your calendars now and join in the fun during Port Perry BIA’s “Celebration of Harvest” event.
