Mlailllo Dear Focus... There was a bridge, then no bridge Dear Editor Just finished reading the latest Focus magazine and was so pleased to see your ‘Thumb’s Down’ to the town- ship about the bridge (or lack of bridge) on the 8th line. Back in the fall, I emailed the township three times to inquire as to when it would be repaired with no re- sponse. I even emailed a letter to the editor to one of the papers in town, again, no response, my letter was not published. I finally called the township and was told they had no funds to repair it and they were waiting on funds to do an environmental study on the bridge! How come we have to wait for money to do the study, and why do we need to doa study? There was a bridge - then there was no bridge! We need a new bridge! Any chance you guys can find out how the bridge came to be broken? That's an answer I couldn't get a response to either. I do believe there is much more to the story than just a broken bridge on this old country road. Keep up the great work! Nancy Kavanagh Perry our cover This bridge which spans the Nonquon River, just north of Port Perry along 8th Line, has been closed down for about two years. Cost to repair/replace the bridge has been estimated at more than $1 million - a cost too large for the township to undertake at the present time. Story on page 8. Photo by J. Peter Hvidsten Sleeping in a parking lot! Dear Editor Iread your recent article about the local farmer using a greenhouse to grow his crops. It might seem like a wonderful way to sustain a crop in such a harsh winter environment but for people who reside within 5 km of this greenhouse, it is nothing more than light pollution. He keeps the lights on all night which lights up everything for 5 plus km. This is very frustrating to those of us who cherish our star-lit nights as the lights of the greenhouse mask any such view. Burley Port Perry Thanks for supporting H&S Dear Editor Thank you for supporting the ‘Person to Person Campaign’ in Scugog Township for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. We raised over $22,000 which is a large part of the Durham Region goal. Thank you MaryAnn for seeing the project through by finding the sponsors and calling on Arlene Walker for the artwork. It was a beautiful month for canvassing our neigh- bourhoods although there were still quite a few streets that were not covered due to a lack of volunteers. Thank you and your staff for keeping the Heart and Stroke Campaign focused in peoples’ minds through your well-read magazine. Judy Anderson Heart and Stroke Campaign Surprised by choice of cleaners Dear Editor Spring has arrived hand and hand with the ever- popular street cleaners. An incident occurred last year with a street clean- ing service and after months of fighting I thought I had my anger down to a simmer. When I saw the company back on the Port Perry streets again this spring my anger became a boiling rage. On July 20, 2011 I came out of the Scugog Commu- Please see “Surprised’ on page 52 co SEE Port Perry Lawn Bowling Club OPEN HOUSE Wednesday May 9 & 16th at 7 pm Everyone is welcome to share in the fun for an evening on the green.
