Scugog Mayor Chuck Mercier feels Canada Day cel- ebrations are a perfect way for residents across Canada to showcase their values, heritage and cultural diversi- ty. “This event is an excellent opportunity for families to enjoy all our community has to offer, while celebrating the 145th birthday of our country,” the mayor said. The Township of Scugog is in the process of plan- ning the annual Canada Day Celebrations in Palmer Park, Port Perry on Sunday, July 1st. This year’s event is expected to continue its tradition as one of the best Canada Day Celebrations in Durham Region. “Our Canada Day Celebrations offer a wide variety of activities and events for families with kids of all ages to enjoy,” said Regional Councillor Bobbie Drew. The free family fun day begins at 11:00 a.m. with the ‘Support the Troops’ Canada Day parade featuring Vettes (Corvettes that is) for Vets and will conclude with a breathtaking fireworks display, touted to be one of the best in Durham Region at dusk. During the course of the day there will be arts, crafts and cultural displays presented by members of the Scugog Council for the Arts along the waterfront, children’s games, activities and entertainment, a variety of food vendors, and much more. This year’s Canada Day Concert Line-Up is current- ly being orchestrated, with several bands set to perform live at the gazebo in Palmer Park starting at 4:00 p.m. The genres of music include: Canadian Classic Rock, 70s, 80s and 90s Hits, Acoustic/ Folk Rock, Country Rock and Indie Rock and Roll.
