Looking to raise funds from penny donations On Friday, June 8, Scugog Coun- cil is entering a team in the Relay for Life event being held in Elgin Park, Uxbridge. The Scugog team are very worthy cause and the announce- ment about the demise of the Canadian penny could be the silver lining for the campaign. Here's a perfect opportunity to help a great cause and get rid of those jars, cans or bags of pennies you've been saving up for years. Start today, seek out those pennies wherever they might be hiding. Roll them up or just throw them into a bag and bring, them into the Scugog Township of- fice. Every penny counts! Scugog Township has many busi- nesses who provide help to local or- ganizations and instititutions through citizens as “Community Boosters”. McHAPPY BROTHERS AND SISTERS The month started off with a bang on May 2 as the Port Perry and Uxbridge McDonald’s locations, operated by Ginger Jackson and family, held their annual McHappy Day. One dollar from the sale of every Big Mac, Happy Meal and many beverages was earmarked for the Big Brothers Big sisters of North Durham. And guess what? Ginger and her team of volunteers and staff raised a total of $5,500 for this amaz- ing organization. Congratulations to all those who took part. 05, JUNE 40 PAGES REVISED.indd 33 Provision of additional wastewater treatment apacity to service the Port Perry Urban Area NOTICE OF 3" PUBLIC INFORMATION CENTRE WORKS DEPARTMENT PUBLIC NOTICE What are the study findings to date? In October 2010, the Region of Durham initiated a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) to plan for additional wastewater treatment capacity to service the Urban Area. Thus far, the Region tes consulted with the publi and agencies on the objectives of the study, servicing options, and treatment technologies. Based on comments received to date, the recommended approach is to provide additional treatment capacity on the existing Nonquon River Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) site by constructing a new mechanical treatment plant, and utilizing {he existing lagoons to equalize peak sewage flow: What stage is the study camcerty at? The project team has evaluated the alternative treatment technologies, and is recommending a treatment strategy that comprises activated sludge, tertiary filtration, ultraviolet light disinfection, and continuous discharge of treated effluent to the Nonquon River, along with a septage receiving station. We are inviting your input on the recommended treatment strategy to assist us in confirming a preferred design for the additional WPCP capacity. How can | provide comment? Anyone with an interest in the study will have the opportunity to provide comment at a Public Information Centre (PIC) to be held on: Nonquon River WPCP (Port Perry Urban Area Date: Tuesday, June 12 Times: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Presentation starting at 2 p.m.); and p.m. to 9 p.m. (Presentation starting at 7 p.m. Location: Scugog Memorial Public Library (Rotary Community Room) 231 Water St, Port Pet Members of the study team will be available at the PIC to answer any questions, display panels will be available for viewing, and a brief presentation will be made by the study team followed by a question & answer session. This PIC will focus on the recommended treatment strategy. Following this PIC, an Environmental Study Report (ESR) will be prepared to document the findings and recommendations of the Class EA.
